Help! 9 month old Yorkie may be prego, accidentally Our female yorkie, Kitty, has been in heat and we have done a pretty good job of keeping her separated from our roommates dog, Winchester. He is a west highland terrier I believe and a little bigger than our yorkie, well this morning before work my boyfriend found them stuck together!!!! We weren't planning on breeding her, especially not to him! What shoudl we do?? Our vet already told us that IF we did decide to breed her then we are going to have to do it by C section because she's so small. Anyway, we are freaking out because we DO NOT want to risk losing her to pregnancy. HELP! Please! What should we do?? |
My recommendation would be to have her spayed now. I know it's sad to think of aborting the possible babies but you have to think of her health. |
Have her immediately spayed. If your vet is already recommending C-section for any delivery, doesn't sound like you should breed her. And, if she continues with a pregnancy from the Westie, you could lose her. |

I'm sorry to hear about this - unfortunately, she is way too young and too small to be having any puppies. Please take her in and have the puppies aborted and her spayed. |
I agree, have her spayed now. she is so young, it is likely that she will not mother the puppies especially if she has to have a c section. You will end up feeding those puppies every 1 to 2 hours day and night if they survive. |
I would also say to get her spayed... if she is already too small to whelp according to your vet, puppies that are mixed with westie will only make things worse. Good Luck :) |
Aside from being small, she is definately too young. There is the maturity factor. Your gril is still a pup. Then there is the mixed breed thing. I'm not sure where your girl was obtained from or the Westie in question. Both Breeds have a great % of liver shunt. That and I'm just assuming both have not obtained the recommended testing performed on possible breeding dogs. |
Having her spayed would be the best and safest thing for you to do. Good luck with it all. |
Well, if you get her spayed ASAP you will not even feel weird about the possible pregnancy , you may get her spayed even before the embryos implant! Please get her fixed ASAP , as a very experienced breeder i had a huge scare when one of my pregnant girls EXPLODED ! that is right, she was carrying a litter of 6 , too many for her, her uterus ruptured before she went into labor. My story had a very happy ending despite all ... she was almost full term, we did an emergency c-section / ovarianhysterectomy ...ALL PUPPIES SURVIVED , including the mommy despite my vet clearly stating that HE WOULD NOT GUARANTEE NO LIVES! he clearly did not thing neither would make it! my sister and i did not sleep for days taking care of everyone, and i had a dog ICU unit here all set up in my home .... She is here for life, it has been about 6 years ... all her puppies are well. But i had a small, all tested yorkie to breed with her, second pregnancy , first went perfect from the same male ! I had some things in my favor... you do not have NONE !!! Please get her fixed ASAP ! |
I agree with everyone to have her spayed. I had my little 4 lb. girl fixed after her first heat, even though I never saw her tie with my male(her sire) I wasn't about to take any chances that she could be. If you do it soon enough, you won't even know if the tie was sucessful or not, but you will know you did the best thing for your dog so she can have a long healthy life. Good luck to you. |

Please don't wait because the longer you wait the harder it will be for the vet and your dog of course as well... I would also recommend that your little girl be spayed as soon as possible. |
