low heart rate 76 Hi I had a question. What can cause a yorkie to have a low heart rate? I have a puppy that went to the vet and they got a 90 reading on her.. went back a week later and they only got a 76. They herd no mummer, and she is breathing good. She eats ok, and she does not play a lot. She is about 15 weeks old. She sleeps a lot. She will play if we have her out, and try to get her to play. What is a normal yorkie heart rate... what might cause it to be so low? Thanks for any help! |
Sorry I dont know the answer to this But will bump it up maybe someone can help. |
One of my books states that an adult larger breed is 60-160 and it is higher in toys. In puppies the heart rate can be 220 minute..This is not Yorkie breed specific but for dogs in general.. What method did they use to check her heart rate? And for how long? For instance--did they use a stethoscope and count for 1 minute or their hand and count for 15 seconds and multoply by four? If they did the latter, they have surely missed some of the beats. You can certainly do this yourself--just let the puppy lie on one of your hands til it is relaxed and maybe asleep. Lay the other hand on the chest area and do not get distracted so you can count for 1 minute.. If a puppy's heart rate slows that much, I would be concerned about heart block. If the rate is indeed accurate, ask to have an EKG done... |
