First time breeder Hi all, I'm a newbie on this board and have been lurking for a few days. We are trying to breed my Coco for the first time (she's 20 months) and I just had to pop on here to say, they finally tied!!!! This is the first time for both dogs to try to breed, so I've been anxious, they were having trouble. They finally got a good tie this evening though, I got down on the floor with Coco and kept her calm until Stud (that's the studs name, lol) was done. We've got them seperated now and are planning on trying again tomorrow evening. The more times they tie, the better our chances, right? I'll have to post pictures of them this weekend, hopefully I'll get the time to try and get them to cooperate for pictures, lol. Stud belongs to my friend, we both love Yorkies, and I've been wanting to get into breeding. Both dogs are AKC registered and come from great blood lines. I just wanted to introduce myself and give you guys my good news! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!:) |
Hi there, welcome to YT. When breeding dogs the more ties the better isnt true. Every other day is best. Sperm counts go down if he ties everday... |
Hi and welcome ! I disagree with this : "The more times they tie, the better our chances, right? " As far as my experience and most of breeders i know including most breeders here on Yorkie Talk you get better results breeding every other day. For an example: supervised breeding on day 11th, 13th and 15th. Put them together, assist with the tie to make sure the stud does not get hurt. Then after they separate, separate them and keep them away until the next scheduled "visit". Some others here will hold the female after the tie. I dont do it . I also do not hold the female if she is not ready as my girls will stand if they are ready . But that is my experience and i respect others. XOXO |
I apologize, school has kept me very busy these past few weeks, so I haven't had time to get online. I phrased that "the more ties the better" wrong, I just meant if we could get them to tie more then once it would be better. My mentor had already told me to keep them separated for a minimum of 20 hours after a tie. Thanks for the help though. |
