Firm poo My puppies are wormed by the vet on a schedule but their poo is just not firm all the time. A lot of the time its kind of wet ploppy but sometimes its like little logs. Is this normal and what can I do to make it more firm? Thanks! |
Hi... You gave too little information: How old are the puppies? What have they been de-wormed with? what are you feeding them? Are they still nursing? What are you feeding mom? I mean, brand , dry or ??? specific food? Any type of supplements? XOXO |

You are welcome! It is normal for puppies at this age to have sooo ... soooo poop. Pyrantel is mild and gets rid of most but not all parasites. Tape worms and giardia or coccidia are not eliminated with pyrantel. You want to see a "log" most of the time, we call it "completely formed" stool. But the change from been separated from mom or no longer allowed to nurse is enough to cause a soft stool. If you suspect parasites you can use the "panacur" which is a more complete de-wormer given over the course of 3 to 5 days or consider do a fecal exam ... Nursing puppies have a "sticky " goooey like poo, but it should get firmer and firmer as they are weaned, and mom then stops "eating that " poo as it gets harder. I would wait a few more days and keep my eyes on it... if it starts to run... or look like diarrhea then i would consider taking to a fecal. |
Thanks. I am not really that concerned because they are looking very healthy, playing well, and otherwise are fine. I will definitly keep an eye on it though. Thanks so much for the help again! |
