diarrhea in new mom help Abby had her puppies a week ago Tuesday and she has developed diarrhea. What can I do to help get her stools back solid? I have swiched her back to boiled chicken and rice, with a little cottage cheese, but still loose stools. Any suggestions? Thanks Deb |

I read this here and tried it, bought a can of pumpkin, dropped it by teaspoons and chilled in freezer, when JD get's diarrhea I pull one out and either put in food or gently down his throat.. seems to work for us.. good luck.. |
I tried the pumpkin, but she won't eat it. At least so far. Just feeding rice, chicken and cottage cheese so far. Hope things improve. Did give her some Bene-bac last night. Hope that helps. Will give it again on Sunday. Hope tomorrow is a better day :p |
Maybe you need to take her to the Vet. She shouldn't be having diarrhea that long. Much longer and she will dehydrate and stop producing milk as well and your puppies will be in jeopardy. |
I did take her to the vet. He gave me a very low dose anitbiotic to give if we couldn't get her stools solid by today. She isn't having uncontrollable diarrhea, it is only when she does have her normal bowel movements during the day they are loose. So did start the antibiotic today as her stool was still loose this am. Hope it will work. I was concerned about the antibioc and babies, but vet said this was a really low dose and felt it would be ok. |
