Why does my pup whimper hiding cookies? Hey, you guys who have been through a litter or two and watched the young ones - do puppies generally whimper when they're hiding a cookie? My single near 6 mo old does this - ONLY when he's hiding a cookie, and I don't understand the meaning. I'm certain it is not a play gesture, he will try several spots and usually is only satisfied after he has found a place for it in another room. He lets off some baby soft whimpers while he's looking for a spot. Is it a way to make littermates feel sorry for him and leave him alone or something? Does somebody know? |
I don't actually know the reason but I figure they are hiding it so no one can find it and feel alittle stressed in finding just the right spot. Buddy is six and he still does this once in awhile. I think it's so cute but if you think of them out in the wild trying to find a safe place to bury something yummy for a later time and not wanting anyone else to find it you can imagine how they must feel. Does he prance around too? |
We've had two previous Yorkies who lived into quite old age; but our newest one, who is now 3, is the first one that will take something I've given her (treat or small bone) and whine and take it a number of places to "hide" it - I think it is so cute. Last summer she would take a treat, bury it and dig it up a few different times before eating it - whining the whole time. Quote:

Wow, what you guys are saying sounds like I better get used to that pathetic little sound, whatever it means. Frisco never prances, but sometimes comes back in the room and presents the cookie chase me challenge. But the whimpering is definitely hand in hand with finding a hiding spot. |
My lil guy would make these sounds too :D I just thought it was b/c he was getting aggervated at "trying" to bury it and just never satisfied....he does this while digging on (only 2 certain pillows) on our sofa:rolleyes: He's a hoot:p |
