2 mo Male Yorkie - No Shots Yet
 
I have found a male Yorkie, he's 2 months old and has not had any shots. What shots should he have had by now and are there any health ramifications? I'm sure if I get him, I would take him to a vet for check-up and shots. Would I need to segragate him from my other dogs? Keep in mind, I haven't purchased him, I just want some information.

I dont think he is too far behind on his shots. I would definitely keep him away from dogs if you do not know their history. If the dogs you have are are current they can't catch anything from him . (as far as I know but Im not a vet) But he could get sick if he was around a sick dog not being vaccinated, atleast that is how I have always understood it from my vet.

I think the first vaccine is at 6-8 weeks?? Maybe someone else here will know.

Initial vaccination should be given between 8 and 9 weeks of age.
Second vaccination 3 to 4 weeks after at approximately 12 weeks of age
Third vaccination at 16 weeks of age. Vaccinating a pup prior to 8 or 9 weeks of age, supresses the mother's immunities.


This puppy should not leave the breeders home prior to 12 weeks of age, weighing 2 pounds or more and with a minimum of 2 vaccinations.......If the pup is less that 2 pounds he should remain with the breeder until he does.

Contrary to what most believe, vaccinating your pup against parva, etc. does not guarantee that your pup will not contract the infection.......

Do not take your pup out into public until 10 days after it has the full compliment of vaccinations

OK....are you going to wait until you can take him to the reservation? I seriously would get him into a vet NOW. He is so young. You found him????

No Linda - I think she's wanting to get him. She just meant she "located" a male puppy.

Cyndi I thought you were only allowed 3 dogs in your mobile home park. Adding a 4th would put you over the limit. :eek: I thought you had decided that you would not be adding a 4th a few months back because of this restriction. :confused:

I do not start shots until 9 weeks. the thinking on shots has changed. Too soon does no good because the mothers antibodies cancel it out. Mine get them at 9 12 and 15 weeks

~My puppies are 9 weeks old and just got their first shot. So the little one you found should be fine. Do you have to get the shot yourself if you buy him, or is the breeder going to do that for you?
