Need breeder opinions about time between pups!!! How long do you give between each puppy being born before you go to the vet? It has been over an hour and a half and I still feel more puppies but there are no contractions and also the first placenta was not delivered after the first pup. If anyone is on this late and could give advice that would be great. I know some breeders will tell you two no more than two hours between pups, but then others will tell you no more than 4 hours. |
Sorry I am not much help but I would be calling the vet, I have seen differnt time frames on here from 1-2 hours inbetween pups. They should have the best advice |
3 hours for me. But is she in hard labor or just kind of relaxing? Make sure the puppy that you have is nursing because that helps with contractions. |
Pookies babies were like this Sunday First Rockie, 1 hour later still born, 2.15 hrs later Rustie! |
5 healthy puppies!!! :-D We now have 3 boys and 2 girls!!! Girl #1 was born at 12:15am and weighed 4 ounces Boy #1 was born at 2:40am and weighed 4 and 3/4 ounces Boy #2 was born breech at 3:00am and weighed 4 and 3/8 ounces Boy #3 was born at 3:15am and weighed 4 ounces Girl #2 was born at 4:41am and weighed 4 ounces The last girl was a real shocker because I had already given momma her whelping pudding and after feeling her really well I thought she was done!!! This is the momma's first litter and she only weighs 5 pounds and 4 ounces when not pregnant!! I am so proud of her and she did soooo well. What more could I ask for than 5 healthy little babies?! I have an air mattress right next to her whelping box and I am going to sleep right next to her and the pups even though it is already morning! :-P |
Congratulations on the pups! They are all nice healthy sizes!! Get some needed rest! ;) :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Congrats on the new pups! |
Congratulations, with a litter this size, you'll be taking care of mom extra carefully......making sure her calcium levels are met and she's eating a lot...... Good Luck, your work has just begun. Oops! Make sure she gets a POP shot....making sure she expels all the placentas......could result in a major infection & you could loose your girl. Call your vet this morning and get her in. |
Congrats! And, thanks for posting the details, maybe this will be reassuring to someone in the future. :) |
Thanks everyone for all of the advice!!! All placentas were definitely accounted for, although I only let her eat one of them. She is eating and drinking very well and producing plenty of milk for all of the pups. My work has just begun, so I am going to get some rest! :dogzzz: |
Oh and I do have some Oral Cal Plus on hand as well in case she does exhibit of any signs of eclampsia. |
Congrats on your babies. Just wanted to add that sometimes you can have a retained pup or one that was partially dissolved. Watch for a lot of green or bloody discharge. The pop shot is always a good idea. |
