Will Mating happen?? My female has gone into heat and I have had a male stud here for 5 days now. My female is in her 14th day of heat. Female is sniffing and rubbing up against my female shi-poo but showing no interest in the male stud. My female is about 8pounds, 2.5 years old and the stud is almost 2 and about 5 pounds. His owner says he has tied before. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if i should keep the male here a little longer or not. He is so sweet but i am sure that his litter mates at his home are probably missing him. |
most of my girls don't even start to think about breeding until the 14th or even the 16th day and then they breed every other day until they are out. I don't just let them free breed because I don't want a bucking bronco female to break the males bone. Some of my girls are very good and some won't stand still once they can't get away. Also, if there is a big height difference some males may have a hard time jumping up to connect. |
Thank you for that info. The stud's owner told me to keep her boy for awhile longer. I just assumed that it would happen once her discharge was turning the lighter color. So i will keep waiting. Thanks again:) |
Some males umm have trouble performing when they are not on their home turf so maybe he would be more comfortable at his own home... |

Hopefully you are not keeping the male and female together at all times. Breeding should only be done under close supervision. It is best to keep the female out of the male's sight and only put them together when you are attempting to breed them. |
The stud owner brought him to me because she works full time and i dont so i can keep an eye on the yorkies and yes i would not be comfortable leaving my girl at someone elses house. |
I have one boy that would not do anything if he was away from home. He is to shy. |
It is common practice for the female to be taken to the stud's home. She should be taken just as she is coming into Season, so that she can settle in and become accustomed to the new environment. It's very unusual for a stud to perform out of his environment. Unless he's a very confident, seasoned stud. The option would be to take the female to the home of the stud just for the breeding, take her home and bring her back. There are a couple of reasons for this method; 1. The stud won't be up holling all night and/or go off food. 2. Some females can, stop their Heat Cycle. |
