Puppy Watch today My little lady seems to be preparing for puppies today! She had sticky plug discharge last night. Her temp this morning was 98.2. I am sure she is imminent. Whelping box and supplies ready; whelping pudding gelling in the fridge, and restless mamma. I have had the flu since Wed and am coughing up a lung or two...she almost knew and has "held off". Since I am up somewhat today, it's her turn! I will keep you posted. Hopefully we will soon have 4 sweet little babies. :) |
Sending prayers for a safe and fast whelp..and for you to feel better.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
Praying for a safe whelping!:) |
Best Wishes for safe healthy furbabies! |
Nothing yet... My little lady is pacing and restless...no signs of heavy labor. But she is certainly restless. It may be a long night. She is no more than 2 feet away from me, which is a good thing. I haven't seen the scratching in the bed yet. |
good luck ...keep us posted:) |
nothing yet still restless...pacing...now she is just resting in her whelping box. She is gonna need her rest with four babies on the way. I'm just hanging next to her. |
Good luck with everything. I hope everything goes well and you feel better soon! |
24 hours...still hanging Her temp dropped 24 hours ago and her discharge 36 hours ago....I'm guessing we will have babies today. She is restless, but I haven't seen the digging. Will keep you posted! Sweet little girl slept next to me for over 5 hours so we are recharged! She has not left my side and that feels good. |

I could use some advice and encouragement Here it is late Saturday and no puppies yet. I should mention that today is day 61. Yesterday her temp dropped to 98.7 and she had some discharge. Today her temp was 98.1. Still a little sticky discharge. She has eaten very little...and only if I hand feed her. I've offered her whelping pudding, cottage cheese and she ate a little fresh browned ground beef. She has been laying around and napping a lot, but can't quite seem to get comfortable. All this I have attributed to first stage of labor. It has been going on since yesterday afternoon. In the past hour she has been breathing a little more deeply, but not panting. And just now began some shivering. It is colder than usual in Florida, but it is warm in the house. She has also been licking her vulva more. Is it safe to assume we have entered into stage 2? As "ready" as I have been, all of a sudden I'm excited and nervous. I know her temp dropped early yesterday, just seems like the onset of the stage 2 has taken kind of long. How long can she go like this before I should worry? This is her second litter. First litter she had two puppies with no complications and it was "text book". This time she has four puppies and it seems so different. I should've known no two litters are the same! |
she sounds like she is progressing. I just helped deliver 5 chihuahua puppies last week and she seemed to take forever to deliver the first, but after that they came about every 15 minutes. |
Second stage...how long does this last? You would think this was my first litter...it is not....second one and I am just having that "second guess". Cali started digging and scratching around 3:30 am and then having some very effective contractions around 5 am. She has been having contractions every 5 minutes or so. She will absolutely not stay in her whelping box. Instead she snuggles with me and then with every contraction she gets up and paces. She has voided on the chuck a few times. She does not appear to be in distress. At what point should I be concerned that this type of work is going too long? There has not been any signs of pushing or presentation of pups. |
If she is having contractions every 5 minutes then I would think she would be very close. I would be getting a little concerned at this point. I would definitely call a vet and let them know what is going on and ask for advise from a vet. Are you giving her any Nutri-cal? |
