new mommy acting wierd
 

so I posted on the thread litters due in Jan. Abby gave birth yesterday Jan 6th. It is now 6:00am Jan 8th and she is very unsettled . She wants to move the 3 puppies under a chair. We have her in a large kennel that she can come and go as she wishes, except now we feel she may hurt them . She moves them either by the tail or head. She's ben pacing and acting like she did before she gave birth. Her temp. is 102.2 she's eating good , going potty. She freaks when I try to help her move the babies, rather then taking a chance she might bite to hard when she takes them by the head to move them.
So is this normal behavior? Should I leave her alone? It's her first litter, she's 3 1/2 years old.
Any help.........please. All my breeding books are in storage, and we are living in our motor home since we sold our house, funny this is the first time when the breeding took, after so many tries, when we really did'nt have room for puppies.lol
I have given her caro sryup a few times........she likes it and I thought she may need to keep her energy up, and alittle van. ice cream that I read was good for lactating bitches.

Please let me know if I'm over reacting or should I be worried.

You may want to move them where there is no activity. You can also try covering the area with a light blanket so that she feels more secure. Make the area more like a den instead of wide open. If they feel unsecure, they will try to hide their babies.

Make sure she is getting plenty of calicum as well.

She needs to be in a quiet space, try moving her to your bedroom,close the curtains for now and cover the crate, I find out with my girls that the first few days they like dark warm cozy places for the babies and themselves. she might be nervous with the traffic in the living room.
my girls like my dressing room to have their babies because is small, and I keep the drapes close for the first week. also make sure she gets 4 or 5 small meals thru the day with the last one close to bed time. and two servings of whelping pudding, and a pill of calcium supplement a day.

I agree, she likely feels "exposed":eek:!!

She maybe attempting to put them in a quiet place where no one can see them. Put her and the babies in a nice, quiet warm place.

However, this is something you may want to consider and I don't mean this to scare you but, there is a possibility that something is wrong with the puppies and she knows it, mother's moving pups around is an indication of a problem......Check for the pups for hydration, check their body temp, are they nursing well (weigh them twice a day).
