Buying from a breeder Although we've wanted a Yorkie for over 20 years now, we are just beginning the journey into researching a reputable breeder to purchase her. I'm wondering if someone could give me a blow by blow description of how purchasing from a breeder works? Do we put a deposit down, sight unseen, to reserve and then pick one? Are the puppies born, and then we pick one? Etc, etc, etc. Help! Thanks :animal-pa |

But, reputable breeders prefer that you contact them by phone. They prefer establishing the interviewing process on a more personal level. Reputable breeders will interview you just as intensly as you interview them. Don't expect the breeder to tell you up front that they have puppies available. |

I would suggest you post your area. Most good and reputable breeders do not ship. If you post your location you may even get referrals . Many breeders here know others and i am sure you came to the right place to learn good criteria to search for a puppy... or maybe i should say ... search for a breeder. You need to educate your self about the breed and the possible problems that may arise , health issues. The more you know the better it is and the best chance you have to find a good breeder and have puppy that will be healthy , gorgeous, well balanced and represent the breed. good luck. XOXO |

As others have posted, each and every breeder is different, and have their own ways of going through the adoption process. I'm buying my Yorkie this month from Southeast Texas Yorkies, and the whole process has been wonderful so far. Please feel free to check them out, they have a very extensive website that you can at least research before making a final decision. She even has an area on there on how to properly choose a breeder. The site is www.southeasttexasyorkies.com. Good luck! |

Long Island, NY Breeder Help Hi--I'm brand new to this Board. I am finally, as an empty nester, in the position to add a little girl Yorkie to our family--myself, husband and two indoor cats. Would anyone have any Long Island breeder information? Thank you, and thanks for having this wonderful Forum. |
Thank you all for your input. As stated, we've wanted a Yorkie for 20 years and are finally in the position to purchase, so I'm sure I've done all the research possible on the breed. We are now in need of a qualified, reputable breeder in hopes of finding the healthiest, happiest...and probably last dog, we will ever have in our life. We are located in Ohio and I would appreciate any personal recommendations. Thank you |
Along with checking the YTCA breeder referral site, I always suggest people attend a dog show (or several shows, if possible). You can see many different yorkies, their breeders, ask questions and get a better idea of the breeders ethics, procedures and what you are looking for in your yorkie. Even if you don't connect with a breeder from the show, you will have gained alot of useful information. Good luck! |

Oh! Since you are in NY......and if it's convenient for you.....you might want to check out the National Show, YTCA in conjunction with YTofGNY Specialties at the New Yorker Hotel. Great place to meet Breeder/Exhibitors and see some of the most beautiful dogs in one place. http://ytca.org/ny2010_info.pdf February 12 - 14th |
