Puppy watch and a quick question.... I haven't posted frequently in forever.....but, my 4 yr old momma is on litter #3. She is a great free whelper, no issues before, is 6.5lbs daddy is 3.5lbs....and is due NOW! My question of the evening is.....how long can a first stage go on? She has had watery mucousy discharge going on over 24 hours now, has had mild early contx but no straining except twice when she was out to go potty so thinking it was just pressure, had loose stools last night, just a bit and has been in and out of her box, (wants to have them on my oldests bed upstairs instead lol) sleeping mostly...off her food but drinking well...and does'nt appear to be in any real distress, no panting, excessive licking, digging....I've never had one go on this long in the "pre" early labor stage and frankly, the waiting is KILLING ME! I'm thinking we'll have puppies by morning but i said that last night haha. Oh and we are expecting 4, possibly 5 ;) TIA! K~ |
Any news? Maybe New Year's babies?? :) |
What day is she on? I hope she had them last night. Update us when you can. |
How are things going? The clear mucousy discharge is normal. The days right before delivery it does get heavier. I pray she has a safe whelping. How many day from the first tie is she? |
She is in for an emergency C section. My first. Not sure if they'll all make it. We got a lot of green all of a sudden and her temp spiked :( I'll update when we get back home :( |

Just checking for updates. |
Sorry to keep you all waiting. We started calling vets last night and heaven forbid ANYONE call me back. This morning I started calling again and the 5th vet I called answered right away...took him maybe 2 mins to call back. He apparently was the only one answering the phone today and had 4 surgeries lined up this morning. We got her in right away and on U/s saw two hb's one very faint....had I called him sooner that pup would have made it as well, but we have one very active very hungry baby girl who survived. The litter was 2 girls one boy, all about the same size as the surivivor. She weighs 4.2oz and is fat and happy. Momma is resting as comfortable as she can for the time being...baby is nursing well and she is tolerating her with no issues except for that sideways look at me to say, "Ummm how did THIS get here?" She's a good mommy though so Im sure she'll pick up the rest of her duties in a couple of days. The vet went ahead and just used gas on her so as not to suppress any puppies more and let them have a chance. There was a pup at an awkward angle and they were all in one horn, which had curled around making things pretty crammed in there. She never went into hard labor or showed signs of distress....just saw lots of green all at once. Baby girls name is "Glimmer" as we saw a glimmer of hope this morning on the U/S ;) I'll post updates. Kristie |
Thank you for the update. I am sorry you lost two of the babies but I am so glad to hear momma and one baby are okay. I pray they both do well. |
