Is this normal??? If you recall, Ellie had her puppies on 11/14. They are 5 weeks old today. She got eclampsia and had to be taken away from nursing the puppies. Her milk finally dried up, and the babies are now lapping milk and rice cereal. They are all doing fine with the exception of the runt. He eats like crazy, but he constantly cries. I check him to make sure he is warm, belly is full, has went poop & pee, but still just whines. After about 5 minutes he stops and goes to sleep with the rest of the litter. Ellie doesn't like spending much time with them because they all start pawing at her trying to nurse. I have a onesie on her so that they can't get to her. My question is that she is still having a bloody discharge. It's not a bright red, but it's red. Sometimes there is a jelly like substance with it. (Sorry to be so graphic). I have searched on the internet and some state that it can last 8-10 weeks, while others state that it can last 3 weeks. Can it be that she is going to have this longer because she's not nursing the pups? Is it normal to go on this long? How do I know when something is wrong? |
I know some spotting is normal up to 4 to 6 weeks, my girl is still nursing my litter is 4 weeks tomorrow, and she still spotting some brownish redish gel, I know is normal, no odor and no fever. I might just give your vet a call to be in the safe side. hugs, Carmen in nj |

I just wanted to say that my Sebastian was a whiner. He always fussed and cried while Gidget was fine. He turned out fine though. :) |
Thanks everyone. I hope this baby doesn't stay a whiner. The cool thing is that my mom is getting him. She helped me the past 2 weeks with feeding them. She's been great, and I can't wait to give her a puppy. She has always wanted a Yorkie. She also wanted the smallest in the bunch. |
I have a cryer and she has been like that since she was about a week old. I think my son has spoiled her though because she don't cry when he is around. |
Maybe your baby boy needs to burp?? or maybe eating too fast and too much?? |
Nope tried that. He's the runt and just likes to whine. He's starting to get a little better, but still cries a lot. I am not sure if has to do with not nursing, but the older he gets, the less it seems to happen. He's playing more now, it's like he is 4-5 days behind the others. |
I had one like that and it was gas on his tummy....I gave a couple of small drops of baby malcon and it worked. Sometimes they can get gas on their tummies when they change to regular food...might give it a try it won't hurt the pupppy. Just give a drop of two on the tongue or this other gas and I can't think of it right now...he wouldn't stop crying after feeding but just couple of drops of the anti gas for babies worked and that was after a $300 vet bill and it was gas!!!
