Is anybody near me? (western KS) Hi everybody. As many of you know I am new to the breeding of yorkies :) I would really like to find somone within a few hours of me that would be willing to mentor/help/give advice and let me see first hand how they run their breeding program. I have called several breeders and nobody is willing to let me SEE what they do. (lots of red flags) A lot of them will not talk after I start asking (TOO MANY) questions. I realize the health and safety issues some people have about visitors in their kennels. I am breeding mine in my home and they are all family pets. (a few are not fit for breeding and fixed- love them the same) I would love to find a small breeder or even a larger one as I hope to expand some day :) that will be willing to "show me a few tricks of how they make it all work" I have family member that also breeds (but I don't agree with they way she does things- another topic- better left unsaid) I don't want to be snoopy in your business. I will just feel better and more confident. sorry for the babble. I hope You understand whe I am looking for. P.S. Yorkie Talk is great. I think that there are some of the most honest and kind pet lovers around::) |
I did not have a mentor close by. But she was willing to answer allmy questions and photograph her setup for me. I also met others through YT that were willing to help me. I have never met any of these people, But I trust and respect their opinions. Good luck to you on whatwever you wish to accomplish. |
Thank you. I never even thought of just asking for pictures:) I know if I need help I can ask anything on here. Anybody willing to send me some pics of their "set up" ?? |

If anybody knows of any in KS,Western NE, or CO I would love to go and check them out. I would hope to meet somone that would be willing to show me how to show my babies :) The main reason is having skin kids at home and the traveling I would have to do. (someone has to be here to take care of my furbabies) My main goal in breeding is to provide healthy and quality furbabies for others. ( I have already spent lots of $$$ and have had all of the proper testing done) I realize I will probally not make money with this. I just love yorkies and most all dogs soo much. I have wanted to breed yorkies for several years but was waiting till the time was right for me (skin kids are all older now- high school and college ages. I know it was going to be expensive- have the finances now. I knew it will take a lot of time and patience- I am very lucky that I can stay home to work- patience is jsut my nature I guess (unless I am waiting for my new furbaby-so hard to wait-that was a few years ago :) ) I do welcome all advice. The main goal I have is to provide healthy and happy furbabies to loving homes. I also have the space and time to be able to accept any of my puppies back if for ANY reason the new owner can't/won't be able to or for whatever reason needs to give the puppy/adult a new home. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 302346 This is my whelping pen/nursery I put the whelping bed in here and that is where the puppies stay til they are about 3 weeks old When the puppies are starting to get around at about 3 weeks, I put towels in the section in the back left corner. This is their bedroom. They learn very fquickly to leave their bed to potty. The pee pad is right outside the door, can't miss it. By the time they are old enough to leave the pen, they are well accustomed to using the pee pad. The larger area on the right is their play area. I have a sliding door that closes this off at night, so mom can get away from the puppies and have her own space if she wants, she can jump over to get to the babies. At 6 weeks old, I start putting them out with the other dogs, for short periods, gradually increasing the time they spend out of the pen. I do not have a kennel. My dogs all live inside with me. |
