John and Margaret Smith in East Texas? Is anyone familiar with this breeder couple? Just thought I'd check before I put a deposit down. Thanks! |

Totally agree Donna. |

East Texas is noted for BYBers, Puppy Mills and those that sell their dogs at the Canton Flea Market. |

i bought a male from them a few years back...and he was a beautiful puppy. i paid like 600 bucks for him and all was well until he bit my son. i have never had a problem with a yorkie being tempermental. but i thought they were very nice and always answered questions i had regarding his care. i no longer have him...but if i had to choose again i would call them. the only thing i didnt like was how i received him....when he was old enought o pick up they met me in a walmart parkinglot and had him in a playpen. when i asked to come by they kept putting it off. and i know she has more than 20 or 30 breeding females so all year long they have 2 or 3 litters available at once...there is never a point they dont have pups www.littlehappyheartskennel.com |

You would call them again??....I certainly would NOT recommend a breeder who would not let you see where the pup's are raised....That is a huge red flag that something is wrong......20-30 females!....Again how could they give that many dogs the proper care and attention they need......I would certainly look elsewhere for a pup......Sounds like a mill....... |

yea well at the time i was naive....and no it was a typo..my keys stick. i wouldn't call. sorry. because i remember asking her about his papers i lost and she never sent me a replacement. took forever. and when i asked about her retired females to be a pet she was rude. i even asked her tospay them before hand and it was just BLAH |

They have approximately 16 puppies listed on petfinder ranging from 4 weeks up! :thumbdown If you go on their website and look up available puppies... then look at the names of the parents... I could only find one that they had under their sires. No - I wouldn't suggest these people. |
Good Lord - she's letting these puppies go to new homes at 6 weeks old!!! Oh, unless they're going to be shipped then you have to wait until they're 8 weeks old!!! |

Well that must be new...i remember when i put the deposit down on rambo he was 5 or 6 weeks and wasn't allowed to get him til he was 8 weeks exactly. now its younger? i know she takes deposits at like 4 which even then i think is too soon because anything can happen, even until the 8th or 12th week. i know he was hypogycemic the night i brought him home but was overall healthy minus one ear infection |
whoah....i just looked at site again....and right now she has 7litters available for chistmas....ugh. i can barely handle my one. lol. she use to only do 3-4 at a time...and imagine...between 400-700 a piece??? thats a great retirement income. www.yorkielittlehappyheartskennel.com |
As said, East Texas is KNOWN for BYB's and Puppy mills selling at the flea market in Canton, Texas.....no reputable breeder would sell at a flea market UGH.....I wish people would really reconsider wanting a puppy for nothing and not try and save to buy the best puppy from a reputable breeder. Patience is the key and not wanting something "NOW" and buy from the wrong person! Donna |

Ever heard that song "These Boots are Made for Walkin"? Put yours on and do it! |

As Donna says, save your money and buy quality from a reputable breeder. Yes, you can more than likely get one for $600.00, $700.00. But, it's pay less now and pay the vet more later....... |

yea well this was way before i had mrs. laynee and i didnt know at the time they should stay with momma longer. like i said i was naive. laynees pups wont leave til they are at LEAST 12 weeks and definately AFTER valentines day...i refuse to find homes for them during that holiday i just hope this person asking about them doesn't go for it |
Second thoughts! Okay, so I am looking for a yorkie puppy and was considering buying from this breeder. I have two yorkies, but they are more "rescue" than anything else. I want a young puppy that I can train (my girl was a year old when I got her, and her hard head makes commands nearly impossible) and possibly compete with. Puppyfind is proving to have horrible results, and I couldn't seem to find any reputable breeders. Everyone has too many dogs, too many breeds, or gives limited registration & spay / neuter. I have been communicating with this breeder for a while (wish I had joined the forum and found this thread sooner, with a generic name like that - google didn't pull much up at all). They have some beautiful dogs. Things are slowly starting to trickle out ... like someone mentioned, they have a LOT of photos of breeding stock, but even more sires and dams that aren't pictured. Also, she is not retired. She works as a nurse. I know for a fact that those are long hours that leave you with little energy for things like .... five litters of puppies. Sadly, I have paid 100 dollars and do not know if I can get it back at this point. My major red flag came recently when she told me that my puppy (who was 4 weeks old) is about to start the weaning process (!!!). And that she may be ready to go even before 8 weeks. I have already fallen in love with this puppy, but I'm becoming intimidated by this. My boyfriend thinks that we should get the puppy, and that 8 weeks is just a "recommended age" for people less experienced in breeding. I don't think he understands .... When I was very young, my parents bought me a Scottie from what basically turned out to be a puppy mill. She started with ear problems ... then skin problems ... then epileptic seizures. I refuse to go through that again. I may just have to "eat" my deposit and forget about this breeder. Am I right in this, or being paranoid? Also, who (in Texas) IS a reputable breeder? Who will offer full registration so I can possibly get in to showing? Who doesn't charge a ton of money because the dog carries some *special* gene? Thanks for any feedback -puppy purchase newbie- -Bodie Bear -Vada Jean-&Artemis Kitty |

Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Also, research a bit more about how to get into the show ring. Just buying a puppy with a full registration isn't really how it works. Good luck! |

1. Wow! A deposit on a 4 week old pup. 2. Did you see the pup prior to placing the deposit? 3. If yes, to the above....my gosh.....a stranger in the home without benefit of puppy shots..... Yes, there are a few reputable breeders in Texas. I began my exhibiting career and my show dogs are from Texas. What is sad is that many of the reputable breeders are winding down their careers so, you'll have to really do your search. There is information in the YT Library you may really want to delve into.....There is also a couple of Regional Yorkie Clubs in Texas...you can access the information via the YTCA.org club.....The YTCA.org page is an excellent way to go.....but, going to the regional club will better serve your geographical area. Oh! If your questin of who will offer full registration "in case you want to show". It doesn't work that way with reputable breeders.......If you want to show....you will have to show the dog to Championship and on a stringent show contract. Reputable breeders will not sell you a show puppy without fully knowing you and mentoring you....and the mentoring process would have started way before they'd place a dog with you. If you have further questions, I'm here to help. |
