Urgent - Eclampsia - How do I dry up her milk We are trying to get the vet to give Ellie a shot to dry up her milk since she has Eclampsia. Does anyone know the name of the shot so I can ask for it specifically from the vet? We have decreased the food intake, and I gave her a bath last night and released some of the milk. She is so full, and she is miserable. We have been putting cold cabbage leaves on her under her onesie so that she can have some comfort from it. Any ideas, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. |
I really don't know anything they can give her. I do have a question why are some girl allowed to nurse after Eclampsia and some are forbidden? I have a friend her pups were 3 weeks old had got eclampsia. She now does oral calcuim 3 times a day and making sure she eats 5 times a day and she is doing fine. So I was wondering why some can and some can't. |

you know i asked my son the same question last night and he said that at that point is up to the vet to assest the situation and determine how bad the eclamsia is and so on.. a lot of medical mumble jumble...LOL so I THINK that ultimately is up to the vet. I heard on the breeders list that I am a member that sage or parsley in her food dries up the milk, but then again I only tried it once with my last litter and I am not sure if it helped or not, she dried up really nicely, but I did the gradual less feeding and all that.. hugs, Carmen in nj |

The hand feeding part hasn't been that difficult because they are 3 weeks old tomorrow. I am just not wanting her to get matisis. She is so full, and so miserable. I know that drying up eventually happens, but I am trying to prevent her from getting the infection. I called the vet and they are going to have the doctor give me a call back. I hate waiting when it's my girl. |

That too. I did milk her a little last night to relieve the pressure. I also did a little this morning. Now I can say it all. I have milked a dog. |

Update: The vet is going to give me a stronger anti-biotic for her. He also said that there is a shot, but that they don't give it because it can have some bad side effects. Therefore, we are getting some camphor oil to help along with the cold compresses. I will keep you guys updated on her condition. |
