Why does my yorkie have two sets of papers? I recently became the proud owner of a 9 month old male yorkie. His name is Caesar!! When he was purchased, the breeder gave me two sets of papers to him. (AKC and APRI) Does this mean that I have a very good dog? I have no idea if his genetic lines have championships or not. He is full grown and only weights 3.3 lbs. He is very very small. Do I have to breed him with a female that also has these two sets of papers? He was taken to the vet and checked on every type of diease possible. Does this mean that he is ready to breed? and his little pink thing has been coming out. My guess is that he is ready for a partner. Please help me. |
Here's what I found about APRI: America's Pet Registry, Inc. has yielded to the requests of numerous breeders and pet owners to establish a registry service that can accept dogs with known parents but those that do not have documented pedigrees at this time. Until now, APRI has been unable to register many dogs from other registry services that do not have documented pedigrees. With the establishment of American Pet Records the same great APRI service is available to those who have begged APRI to accept their dogs for dual registration. The American Pet Records dogs will not be entered into the APRI database but will be recorded separately. An American Pet Records dog may be mated with an APRI dog; however, the litter will be issued as American Pet Records. Litter pedigrees will not be offered on these litters, nor will pedigrees on the American Pet Records dogs be available at this time. Litter registration fees will be same as with APRI. The normal registration fee with American Pet Records is $20.00, but registered breeders will be charged only $10.00 for registration. Breeders may register with either APRI or American Pet Records. For more information, please contact the APRI or American Pet Records offices. The same courteous and knowledgeable personnel will be available. BTW, just because his little pink thing is coming out doesn't mean he is ready. My male started showing us his lil thing for months before he was reaady. I would try to wait atleast a year before breeding him. |
Oops, forgot to say...Welcome to yorkietalk!!!! |
I can't answer any of your ????'s but wanted to say welcome and would love to see a picture of your little guy! :) |
The breeder/previous owner registered your pup with both registries. I have a male that is registered with AKC and ACA.... the reason I did that is some of my females are ACA registered.... any pups by them will be ACA. The dual registry means you can mate your male another AKC ... or... APRI female... and register pups accordingly. Actually all other registries accept AKC or APRI when applying for registry of pups.... (ie: ACA). Basically I am saying you can register your pup with as many registries as you want to.... does not make the dog any better than any other dog. |
Help!!! Thank all of ya'll for welcoming me into yorkietalk!!! :) It is really neet and I have found a lot of info out on my little man. By the way...what is ACA? and why can I register him with any registery that I want to? His papers are about to come in. I ordered the silver package. I didn't want the tape of the dogs. Can I also register him with ACA? I am also having some trouble with this website. I don't know how to list my threads to different talks....like, my papers thread is in the breeders thread. I also don't know how to get to my messages when I log in. Is there an easier way? |
AKC and APRI is only a duel registration, it doesnt mean you have a special dog. Some breeders will do both if they have APRI (or other) registry bitches so "the little man" can be a sire of record. BTW welcome, enjoy YT |

Yes you can register him with ACA, CKC (us one) and other registries, all others will accept AKC for validation. BTW welcome, enjoy YT |
yikes sorry for the dbl post I thought I was editing |
ACA is the American Canine Association..... just another one of the many registries out there. |
