Bailey Hello everyone, This is Gina, Bailey's mama. Ok so everything so far is going pretty good. She's eating well and drinking well. I'm making sure she gets all the calcium she needs on top of her egg every day along with her whelping pudding that she loves so very much. The babies are attaching well to her and i'm feeling really good about that. I do have one question though..... why in the world would she jump out of her 4x4 pen that i have set up for them and leave her babies and come to me 3 times in the middle of the night. at first i freaked out thinking omg something is wrong with a pup, but then i get there and they are all sleeping in a pile...(so cute! :D) Then the second time i thought well...maybe she just needs to go potty. so i let her outside. But then it happend a 3rd time and it's just started to scare me. I mean...doesnt' she want to be with here babies? someone please enlighten me alittle here. I slept the first night on the floor in the office right next to them and she never did it then... but my body cant handle the floor. I had a back surgry and needless to say...i'm still hurting sooo very bad for the 2 nights i was on the floor. any sugestions?? thanks! Gina & Bailey:aimeeyork |
My girls always have their babies in their whelping box next to my bed at night. When their babies are sleeping and quiet it is not unusual for me to awaken to mom sleeping next to me. As soon as the puppies make any noise they are gone back to the babies. I think they just miss their cuddle time with me. (they love us too) If the babies are quiet and well fed, I don't think I would worry about this. Maybe leave an opening in the ex-pen so she can come and go. |
Yes, I agree with that, that is why my breeding girls are not allowed to sleep in my bed, they sleep in their beds because I want them to be able to stay with the babies without wanting to sleep next to me. I love them and my girls LOVE to cuddle with me,but they know once mama says light out everyone goes to their bed.. unless you are my beloved stud, HE sleeps between me and hubby..:D:D:D.. move the babies to your room and let her come and go...:):), now if the babies are crying you must make sure she goes to them.. |
ok, thank you all for your input. I'm going to figure something out. I think we'll just leave the pen door open at night for her to go back and forth or...maybe just move them to our room at night only. i just know that during the day they have to be in my office where i have everything set up and a lock on the door becuase i have a 3 1/2 yr old son that LOVES my bailey and really wants to LOVE on her babies..lol.. and we all know how that can turn out... :( Thanks again! I keep them in my room for the first couple of weeks. I had a mom once that would carry her pups to my bed. She would jump the gates and jump on the bed with the puppy in her mouth. It scared me to death. Since then I always have them right beside me in the same room. |
