Need help with deciding to have c-section I am beside myself right now. I just took sassy to the vet, she is 67 days by the first breeding and 65 days by the second breeding. This morning she tried to throw up while taking her temp. and was shaking, that stoped. The vet did an oral exam and said she has not dialated yet. She had taken one side xray that showed 2 pups. One going down and the other up. And she said due to the fact that she is only having two and they were not so small, looks around 3 to 3.5 ounce pups that they might have to go c-section. Sassy usually weighs 5.2lbs today 6lbs. Temp is 98.8, She said she has done alot of csections in yorkies with one or two pups because they get bigger, and to hard to deliver. I am not sure what to do. I have her home now and she acts fine. Even ate some. Should I let her go and see what happens or take her in today for a csection. After 7 it is emergency room, higher dollars. And one hour drive away, so I am beside my self not sure what to do, cause she could have them on her own. What would you ladies do!!! |

Not always are the pups too big.....but, more often than not they are. If it were me....I'd go for the C section now. |
I'm sorry for the trouble you're having :( and wish you and your girl the best. I didn't think 3.5 oz was too big, but I'm not expirenced with this, so ... I'm sure some of the breeders will reply soon! Good luck, whatever you decide |
lol, I told you they would see it soon! |
I agree on this one. I would have a c-section and trust my vet. I hope and pray that all goes well. |
Puppies are not too large, as a matter of fact very average. But, your vet is basing his decision on other factors, the size of her pelvic area and the possibility these pups may give her difficulty to pass. |
Tough call.. Given she is 67 days I would do csection.. |

If it wern't for my Maggie's c-section we would have lost little Diesel and probably Maggie for sure!!! Trust your vet! |
I would probaly go for the c-section, Did the vet say if her pevis was big enough to pass the puppies? I know its a hard decision but better safe than sorry. Good luck hope everything works out |
Called the vet back Asked if she thought the heads were to big for the pelvis, she said it was to close to call. Sassy at this point is not digging and the babys are still moving quite a bit. I have around 3.5 hours to decide then there is only one vet at the office then.Wish I could show you the xrays but I do not have a working scanner. |

Here's another thing to consider; with one up and one down. The one up, because of the close call can get it's head caught in mom's pelvic bone, and an emergency c-section may have to be performed anyway. |
With Lexie the vet told me it was to close to call, so I went with c-section they were 3 oz each. The next time I breed her the vet said maybe "we" jumped the gun, and let her try it this time, I had to rush her in for a emergency c-section, so I would say go and do it, if there is a chance she may not be able to have them by herself, you are better off going ahead and doing it, then wait and see like I did. :) |
So even if she has not dialated or showing signs of labor you all think I should get ready to take her in for the csection.! I have never had a yorkie have a csection. They all delivered on their own. With my help of course. I am so scared to have her put under. I just love her so much. I could not bear to have her not make it. She is like my child. |
Well my girl went into labor on her 65th day and couldn't pass anything but the water sacks and luckliy we got her to the vet in time for them to do the c section and all of her puppies were fine and she took right to them and has been fine since. I want breed her again but i would go ahead before it becomes an emergency and then you have to rush her in. Did the vet go ahead and recommend a c-section |
No, she said she is not in labor now and not showing signs of pain, so she said take her home and watch her, could be tommarrow. But ya never know. |
