AKC Papers? Hi, can you tell me what the normal wait time is for the AKC papers to arrive? Another words, if you buy a dog what is an acceptable time to expect the AKC papers to arrive to you? Thanks. Elaine |
When you purchase a dog it should have came with an AKC application. When you send that off to AKC I have had it to take anywhere from a week to a couple. |
Thank you. My girl was a stud fee puppy. When I bought her the woman told me to send my info to (And she gave me the breeder's name) and that the papers would be sent to me direct from her. I did that the same or next day of getting her and got an acknowledgment back but it's been a month now and I'm not sure what an acceptable time is to wait. I didn't receive any paper work on her at all with regard to AKC. I only have the pup's info such as shots, and dates any meds were given. Thanks. Elaine |
Well, some breeders are not always prompt about getting the paper work in to AKC. I suggest you make a follow up call. It only takes a week to get papers back from AKC if done online, up to 3 weeks if done through the mail. For future purchases, it is appropriate for the breeders to provide the names and registration numbers of the sire and dam, especially if the dog is being sold with open registration. If buying a pet with limited registration some breeders are leery of giving out too much information until proof of spay or neuter is provided. |
Thanks guys. I sent a nice note earlier to the breeder to inquire and did get a response. I should have the papers I would assume this week sometime. Thanks again. Elaine |

Just wanted to add that I register all my litters online and it only takes 5-7 days, if that, to get my applications in the mail. Quote:
