I will talk with the vet about the things suggested. the thing is though, her swelling goes down after a while, and it looks normal, but then flares up when she tries to poop. I am so tired of going to the vet and them telling me that it is fine and will stop when the diarrhea stops. I have been to two vets already. |

thats okay. she has been not really wanting the science diet so I have been giving her a little bit of royal canine puppy food and she seems to like that. should I make her some boiled rice and maybe some chicken broth? I just can't seem to figure out why it just gets swollen when she "tries" to poop. |
Just her straining could make it swell, like in humans when they strain they get hemorrhoids. I would be very concerned that she has guardia or coccidia or a intestinal infection. I think she should be on a bland diet. The royal canine has a lot of corn in it and will not be that easy to digest. You can give her a little canned pure pumpkin and that would probably help her a lot. How much does you pup weigh? How long has she been on antibiotics? I hope she gets better soon. |
I will give her some canned pumpkin and stop giving her the royal canine. she is 11 weeks old and weighs around 1lb 4oz. she is the smallest on out of the litter and now I am wondering if it's because of something that is going on. she is very tiny and she doesn't seem to be growing as quickly as her brothers. is the metronidazole an anti-biotic? the vet just said it was to help the diarrhea. if so, she has been on that for like 2 weeks. |
Home Remedies I do the canned pumpkin as well and have seen it make a big difference... Also, you might try a bit of plain yogurt (active enzymes) to balance any gastro-intestinal growth that might be either over / under active.... What she is currently taking is a really good broad spectrum gastro med... I would be really hesitant about giving any other meds unless recommended by a vet. Please keep us posted and let us.... |

And don't forget that Flagyl causes loss of appetite - so you may notice that she doesn't really want to eat, in which case you are going to have to make her eat to keep her stomach stretched. That prescription food may be good for her, but I personally think it looks and smells disgusting. It's mushy and it's bland and it's for dogs OR cats. |
they say not to give a puppy under 12 weeks old metranidazole or flagyl and i believe this when ever i have done this the puppy gets hypogloxcimic and goes right down my vet tells me to use Baytril 22.7 ounce a day and clavamox 2x a day and those to antibiotics work wonderful together the puppy always gets well and never shuts down. |
the yogart is really good to use that activia because when a puppy has been on antibiotics a long time it kills all the bacteria and you need to put the good bacteria back in her bodyor they have this stuff in a tube call probiotics the vet has it that works just like yogart |
