How is she doing? Have you noticed a change in her temp??

Hi Tammy. I haven't been doing the temp thing....I am home all day now and everyday till this happens so I figured I'd save her the stress and just watch her actions instead. I will say that I kinda regret not taking it though just because I read about temps going too low....I wonder if it's too late to start taking it....comparison wise?

If you plan to, do so only once a day.....if it drops below 97.....worry....but you'll know if she's going into shock....just by feeling her gums....if they're cold that's another sign.

Hi Marc

I took Tiffany's temp using an infrared Thremometer. Very fast and made for the ear. Since I have always "played" with her ears she couldnt have cared less. So no stress! The down side was I didnt find temp readings all that helpfull.

I knew it was time because all of a sudden her behaviour was "OFF", just suddenly very quiet....different....off! We went straight to the whelping area. Almost immediatly she started serious nesting and growling!

Hi Marc it is me again! I dont think you said if you are doing this alone or not. But my recommendation is to have another pair of hands handy for those unexpected moments.

Tiffs last pup was very small and had a VERY short umbilical cord. I clamped it with a hemostat and cut it with scissors. (Boy if you can find suture scissors they work a lot easier!) But if someone hadnt been there to hold Tiffany It would have been impossible. Linda also tied it off. I was holding the pup and the clamp so as not to put any undue stress on the chord! When things start to go wrong it happens very fast and another pair of hands is priceless!

Hey there Phoenix!

I have my vet's emergency and cell number as well as his assistants cell number. If it starts during the day then they are minutes away. If it's at night then they are about 15 or so.

that is very true, another set of hands is wonderful, I had my youngest son there and it was wonderful, and my vet tech son on call, but I still got Nervous when she started whelping..

Still no signs of any labor. Today would be day 63. How much over is normal? I just worry that the pups are going to be too big if she takes too long.

Day 63 of her last breeding? Some have gone at day 65. Have pups dropped? Some don't drop until just prior to labor beginning. Magic # is 67.

I just have to say that this has been a very nice, calm, sweet, understanding and extremely informative thread and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This is what YT is about....and I'm so glad I decided to check it out. Just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have responded and have been so incredibly sweet!!!! :thumbs up: :ghug:

Let me get this straight...

Today is 64 days from the day of her first tie.
It is day 63 then from her second and last tie.

So...If Sept 12th was her last tie I could be looking 4 more days yet?
