hope all is going well |
SHe's been having contractions since around 2pm, and pushing for a few minutes about every five minutes. I called the vet (it's been about 2 hours and no puppies/sack) and they told me to give her another hour or two. I'm still worried though. ??? The puppies look as though they're in the same position and I don't see much of a change in her. Poor thing, I feel terrible for her. :( How long should I wait before taking action? Should I take the vet's advice and give it another 2 hours? |
Most of the breeders on here would say GET TO THE VET! Maybe the pups are in the wrong position or too big to be born...protect Maya! |

If she has been pushing for 2 hours with no sign of a pup I would take her straight in to the vet now. Make sure you put her in a basket or sometime to secure in the car. |
I just got up, how is Maya doing? |
Am I reading right she has been pushing for 2 1/2 hours every 3 to 5 mintues? |

Yes, we took her in! I didn't wait the additional hour as the emergency vet had told us, and ended up taking her into a different emergency vet clinic instead. I didn't feel comfortable with Maya being in labor for over 2 hours, so to the vet we went. For now, they've run some blood tests- her calcium levels were a little low, so they're giving her calcium now with a shot of oxytocin (sp?), and her blood sugar they say was just fine. BTW, the vet there said that when she did a vaginal exam on Maya, she could actually feel a sack, so we're hoping for some good news soon. So, now she's there at the clinic while we're at home waiting to see if that does the trick. They'll be calling us within the hour to let us know what's going on, and if she will be needing a c-section after all is said and done. Thanks so much for the advice everyone; thanks so much for caring. You guys really are the best. I was so worried, but I feel so much better now. Even if a cesarean is necessary, it's whatever keeps Maya and those babies safe. And one more thing, if she gets a c-section, she's getting spayed while we're at it! |
