HELP! I need to find a good breeder! I'm having trouble finding a quality breeder that isn't going to have my wait 5 years for a puppy/retired adult. Does anyone know of good show quality producers as I do like to show in the quad city area of Iowa and Illinois? Its on the border between the two states. I'm willing to travel some for quality, but there must be some quality breeders in the midwest, so throw me some names :) !!!! |

But, some of greats are in Ill, Only a couple in IA that I'm not familiar with. |
I'm a very fledgling person looking for my show niche - no one is disposable and I'm sure as I age I will select one breed (I'm 22), but for now I really like the variety and the challenge. Yorkies as pets have been something that has always enticed me - the coat work looks amazing and as you can see from vincent the peke I am familiar with coat work....thus far I have learned I want a shedless breed so pekes and danes are out for the future. The two dogs you see in the pictures will always have homes with me and will probably do some stud work. The peke will for sure as he has beaten some stiff competition. Having said this do you have some breeders who I could contact atleast to get to know - I never want to rush into anything and I'm not necessarily looking to acquire a dog, but more learn about the yorkie as a standard....you can't buy till you are familiar with this anyhow!- and also the health problems and testing they require. |

Have you checked out YTCA.org. One of the greats just passed away, Roberta Rothenbach, Rothby and her line is being completely stopped. There is Vicki Meadows (by the way has Dobes too), Katherine Weems, Arlene King & several others in Ill. Peek coats are very different than yorkie coats.....whole different ball of wax.....But, I understand what you mean, you know that it does take a lot of work. |
Are you looking for a male or a female? How far do you travel for shows? I just wonder if I've ran in to you before. We're getting ready for a show in Lincoln, NE the 14th and 15th. Right now I'm holding show quality back for myself to show in the spring. But, you might call Deb Sillers - Amazing Yorkies Yorkie Breeders of AKC Yorkshire Terrier puppies bred for Health as well as Beauty. Breeding-Show Propects or Loving Quality Pets. There is so much to learn about showing yorkies. I used to show St. Bernards and there is no comparison. Yorkies are one of the hardest breeds to show. My advise to you, since you are young and wanting to do this the right way, is for you to try to find a mentor in your area. There are quite a few show breeders in Il. Here is the link to the YTCA website: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America There are some shows coming up this year in Belleville, Il. and Rosemont, Il. Perhaps you could attend and met some fellow exhibitors that could help you. There are show breeders out there that would be willing to sell you a show dog but to get a really nice show dog you need to be willing to sign a show contract and you need to get a older pup. I recommend one that is 6 months or older. You need to really familiarize yourself with the yorkie standard and do lots of research before you make your decision. There are all different types of 'looks' when it comes to yorkies, even though they all are yorkies and conform to the standard, there are certain qualities that some people prefer. One of my favorite breeders that seems to consistently produce quality dogs is Durrer Yorkies owned by Betty Ann Durrer in Canada. Of course there are many many more excellent breeders out there so you really should check out a lot of them. Also be ready to pay around $3,000 for a quality show dog. Best of luck in your search. |
I love to attend shows when is the one in rosemont, IL and where at? |

I do not use infodog that much except to look at show results sometimes. For those interested, here is a list of all most all the dog show superintendents throughout the U.S. American Kennel Club - Licensed Superintendents |

But, the midwest superintendent is Roy Jones |
