Yorkie Temperature Drop prior to breeding ? Hi. My husband and I have a yorkie female, this is her second time having puppies and she is due in 13 days. I just have a question. I know most females temps are between 100-101 but my question is specific to my yorkie. Last time she had only had one pup and her temp never 'dropped' 24 hours prior to delivery. Her temp normally ranges around 100 but when she is pregnant it is 99-99.5 the entire time. I have started taking her temps again 3 times a day today for baseline temps but she is at 99.4 today so I have a feeling this pregnancy will be similar. We know she is having at least 2 pups this time due to vet visits but should I expect the temp to drop this time, or will it do the same as last time? Has anyone had this issue before? Our vet told us last time that it was most likely because she only had one pup and it was 4.5 oz. Does this make sense? If so, it should drop this time correct? |
I don't see that the size of the pup would have anything to do with whether she had a temperature drop or not. I have had females have the temperature drop but I have also had a number of them that went into labor without the temperature drop. I really don't trust the temperature drop to tell me when they are going into labor. It is bothersome to the mommas to have their temperature taken all the time and it is just not totally dependable so I go more by other signs. I have seen many puppy watches here on yt where the momma ran a low temperature for many days before delivery pups. It can drive you crazy. Good luck with your whelping. |
