Yorkie Bredding I have heard many stories about breeding. My first question is about size. My femail Yorkie is 2-3 lbs and my male is about 6-7. Which one determines the size of the pups, the male or a female? You can see the size of them as my avatar. Thanks for your info Karen |
No female under 5#'s should be bred. It could kill her. |
Your female is way too small to breed. I hope she's spayed. |
your female is to tiny to breed..please dont there are many first time posters who have asked this question or simliar if you search from them there will be tons of reason why not to breed such a small female |
Oh your little one is very small to be breeding, Im not a breeder but if you search on here you will get tons of great info about breeding, My girls are 5 pds and 4 pds, both have been spayed ;) It can happen so fast so please be careful when she comes in season. |
To answer your question, No single parent determines the size, both parents contribute the genes and they also carry genes from their ancestors. So you can get small puppies from big dogs and big puppies from small dlogs. But I would never breed a 2 to 3 pound femaleto a 6 to 7 pound male. the mating alone would be hard on her if not fatal. |
Your girl is way too small to breed. And you can't just look at the dogs that you have presently. You'd have to see if the dogs in their lines threw bigger pups. I have heard that males determine the size, and then I have heard that females determine the size, so I don't have an answer for you there. |
Yeah...what they said! Seriously, the general rule of thumb for size of a breeding female is for 5 lbs to be the absolute minimum. (And even then, pelvic structure has to be taken into account.) You girl is way too small to breed. The genetics of BOTH parents play a role in the size of the pups...and not just the parents, but the sizes of the other dogs in their lines have to be taken into consideration as well. In general, breeding ETHCIALLY takes a lot of preparation, research and a good overall, understanding of genetics and the entire breeding process IN ADVANCE of ever actually proceeding with breeding yourself. |
holy moly sorry dont want you to feel like were slamming you but there is a 5 lb minimum for your female and the male should always be smaller so looks like the two dogs you have arent the ones you should have if your intrested in breeding them:( |
Too small to breed! I have a 5 pound that is very small boned and in structure, doesn't even look 5 pounds and she is spayed because she is "way" too small in bone structure and a 2 to 3 pound is WAY TO SMALL to breed! Spay her and love her as a pet only is my suggestion! Donna Bird |
