Black coat I'm seeking the knowledge of the more experienced breeders here...and anyone else that may have information. :D What is your opinion of a yorkie with a black coat instead of the blue? Personally, I love the black coat and Rebel will give me what I want...however in another thread it was mentioned that a black coat doesn't have correct texture  ...don't quote me directly on that. What has been your experience with the black coats? |
Kimberley, i was just going to ask the same exact question!!!! I was just reading that other thread, too and I LOVE the black coat. The darker the better IMO. Is that not good in the show ring? |

I wish I could be of more help for ya, but Weeg had a very silvery coat and he is sooo soft and very fine textured. But Brasco who has a very black coat, is very soft and more thicker texture, but not as shiny as Weeg's coat!!! But I think both are beautiful!!!! They are my boys afterall!!!! hahah!!! So sorry I cant help ya!!!!! |

The black coat is softer, usually thicker and faster growing. Its not however the silk reflecting texture it should be. I have seen some that weren't really to woolly but definitely not silk. |
my coco has the black coat, and i love it!!it sure does grow super fast too. and it also falls in the in btween texture category. |
Both of mine are black and gold. They have a little silver, but not alot. my female She-ra has a short course coat, and my male Harley has a silky longer coat. So I am blessed with both!!! She-ra's sister is blue and gold, so I am hoping she will throw both colors!! Personally, I love the dark coat! All I have ever seen in the show ring is that long flowing coat that is so gorgeous, but I am thankful that mine have shorter coats b/c they LOVE to roll in fresh cut grass!!! Sorry I don't have an professional input for you!!! :( |
No idea about the show stuff. Black & Gold is one of the optional yorkie colors on akc registration though ::shrugs:: All I know is I also love the black coat! Bender is nearly 2 years old and thankfully he didn't change to blue. My husband and I were hoping he'd stay dark. Of course we would have loved him no matter what, but we got lucky. He's only a tiny bit over 4# and looks exactly like a puppy. Everyone he walks by thinks he is one. His fur is between cottony and silky. It's very pretty, and lays down well when his coat is longer, but he seems happier with a short coat. ~LeAnn :animal36 |
Chanel had the dark coat growing up - When I had it cut short much of the black never grew back as dark .... but it grows SUPER fast |
Bailey is the black and gold,, I keep waiting for it to change, I see traces of blue in there, xspecially when in the sun, but he has been cut short all summer,,and it is still so dark. I like it ,,but I keep thinking its abnormal.. glad Im not. His mother was more golden, and his dad more blue,,,who knows what he will end up  |
Sophie will be a year old in November and she is still really dark. Her coat grows really fast and is super thick. It does have a nice shine to it as long as I condition it well but she definatly doesn't have a silky coat. |
Both of mine say blue and gold. but looks more black to me. |
I love both combos of colors. And, have owned them all. I have the Biewer/Partis now and adore them!! But, I had to find a little Yorkie to sorta start helping my grief over the death of the heart of my heart Jesse. I have the sweetest, cutest little 14 eek ol baby girl and I have no idea what color she will be. She has a blue eye flash and she does have a silky coat. But, Jesse was such a beauty in that silvery, blue coat. Sorry, I didn't mean to get off the subject but I did want to say I have had dogs break their adult colors at 2+ years.. |
