Skin issue on baby yorkies I have a litter of three little boys. At about 3 wks of age they developed some scabbiness on the back of their necks. Doesn't seem to itch, and no loss of hair. Babies healthy and energetic otherwise. Could it be a food allergy or related to flea treatment of mom? Getting better with baths, brushing, but still there. |
Moved to breeders section and bumping for you. |
Thanks for putting me in the right forum! I cannot imagine that this is anything serious. We own both parents, and these puppies have been raised right here in the living room. We keep the box clean and dogs de-flead. In fact, one of my thoughts is that Frontline applications to mom have been an irritant and caused an allergic reaction. It has been a bad summer for fleas here and we have treated her regularly with a new spray form of Frontline. I am not sold on it frankly, because it appears to be weaker and needs to be applied more often. Other thoughts were that this is just kind of a cradle cap type of thing. The sire has very thick hair. I thought perhaps because they were not old enough to be groomed, that oils built up and caused the crustiness. Anxious to see if anyone else has had a problem like this. It is getting better. |
It really sounds like flea bites to me. Do you have a flea comb to comb the pups with? |
I have a fine toothed comb, pin comb that I started using to help comb out the scabs. Plus, we have bathed them several times and put some sulfadine on the remaining areas. They got a few fleas, which we promptly got rid of. I first thought it might be flea eggs, but the scabs did not melt away the way they should have. |
