My Yorkie is pregnant. Please help! My Yorkie was bred while I was on vacation. My mother-in-law was watching our "kids" for us while we were away. My female went into heat late. Looking back, I guess I should have seen this coming since she goes into heat a month later every year. My mother-in-law has a male and said that they "coupled" on August 7th 2009 which puts her due date at 10/09/09. I am not completely new at breeding as I've bred German Shepherds before but I wasn't planning on breeding her. I know that there can be problems with small dogs and c-sections and really I want to know what to look for. I have an x-ray scheduled for 10/05/09 so that I know how many puppies to expect. What else should I look for? I am really worried for her safety as she is like a child to me. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.:animal-pa |
Hi, i'm sorry you and your little girl have been put in this situation. how old is your girl and how much does she weigh? Is your MIL's male a yorkie? How much does he weigh? getting the x-ray done will be a big help so you can see about how many puppies she is having and how big they are. hopefully everything will be fine but one never knows with these little guys. |
2 cents... ok maybe 10... If I were in your situation, I would find a yorkie breeder (or other toy breeder)in your area, there may well be someone on this board close to you.... (post in the breeder section to see) Explain your situation and see if she / he can help deliver and aid in post whelp.... The reason I suggest this is that often those folks have the needed supplies and there's really no sense in you purchasing all that if you won't need it again.... I've done this several times and I certainly never mind... Plus, I love seeing brand new puppies!!! It is really great that you have experience, just note that large breeds and small breeds are apples and oranges when it comes to whelping. Having the help of a breeder may save you lots in vet bills and decrease the risk to your girl in some ways... Good Luck!!!! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk and best wishes :welcome4: :yorkietal Welcome to Yorkietalk :yorkietal :welcome4: It sounds like you are doing the very best you can with the unplanned pregnancy. I wish you well with a safe whelping -- and wanted to let you know that many of us will be sitting in the maternity waiting room when the time comes and will be glad to offer what help and advice we can. You have already been given some fantastic advice by Kalina82 and SET Yorkies. It would be fantastic if you could find an experienced Yorkie breeder (or small dog breeder) near you that would be willing to be on call. |
Hello, Mia is just 3yrs old, she weighs between 6 & 7 lbs. She's a very healthy active girl even through the pregnancy but I think that she looks tired or sad. I feel bad for her and I just hope that she makes it through this without any major issues. If it comes to a c-section I will have her spayed at the same time so that this doesn't happen again. I am going to look for a nearby small dog preferrable Yorkie breeder to see if they would be willing to assist when the time comes. I am new to Yorkie talk and I haven't seen a Breeders thread, could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you all for your help! |
go to forums and scroll just over halfway down the page it says breederstalk hope all goes well |
