Heat question Pebbles is 10 months old and is having her very first heat cycle. Can anyone tell me if her being in heat would have anything to do with her itching. She seems to scratch more than usual. It only started recently and was wondering if it had anything to do with her hormones. It seems to be only by her face that she scratches and I have check and recheck and can't find anything out of the ordinary. |
I've never heard of that happening, but it does make sense that hormonal changes will manifest themselves in other parts of the body. Have you changed her food at all lately? Given her a new type of treat? Used a new cleaner? Maybe try giving her a bath with a soothing shampoo and see if that helps. |

[QUOTE= Hope that's not the problem with your baby, but it does often show up about the time of their first heat because of stress (according to my vet).[/QUOTE] Thats a first for me! I had never heard of that happening. I can understand that the stress of their first heat can do crazy things to them, but help onset red mange? I just remember being a teenager and having my first "heat" (lol) and how uncomfortable and stressed out I was. I can't imagine how the dogs are really reacting to it. |
Yep, the vet said that her first heat probably triggered it. Had to have her fixed right away so she would not go into heat again. Just did a quick Google search to make sure I was not giving you bad info and found this... DEMODECTIC MANGE "We typically see demodicosis occur in dogs entering puberty, although some puppies will display signs earlier. For females, the first heat cycle may trigger symptoms and even though we may be able to control the symptoms, each time the dog goes into heat, they may recur." |
Wow, this is a new one for me, I did not know this.. good information, my chanel went thru her first heat and I really did not notice anything different. thanks for posting.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
