Could someone please explain in-line breeding to me Hi I have a new female yorkie that I just got and the breeder told me that she was related to both the dad and the granddad? She said she is a in-line breed yorkie. She does it to keep the quality of the yorkie going, She told me that If I breed her that I can breed the father of the litter with the daughter? Please explain in line breeding to me. and does AKC recognize it. These are both AKC yorkies. |
Yes AKC does reconize it. I am afraid that I wouldn't breed your girl with her dad. That is too close of a breeding. I have seen pedigree's that have the dad was breed to his grand-daughter. There are many established lines that are doing in-line breeding to keep their lines of quality going. It should only be done by an experienced breeder. There are plenty of threads here that go into this in the past. I hope that a more experienced breeder can explain this to you more easily than I could. |
If you breed by her rules that is in-breeding, some people line- breed but it should be after a few generations. maybe someone familar with this will explain it in detail better than me since i don't do either |
line breeding In short, not a good idea at all.... However, none of the pure breeds would look or act as they currently do without linebreeding. Line breeding will also continue to change each breed insuring that particular genes are replicated. That said, prior to even considering in-line breeding, you must have a firm grasp on genetics. I don't just mean a bit of knowledge via the internet, but a firm understanding of genetic strands (i.e. every dom / rec gene in your foundation). I suggest you being with Malcom Willis and read his work over and over again. Although line breeding can produce awesome traits, it can also exaggerate traits unwanted traits. |
