pups are beginning to cry Lacey's pups were born on the 9th and they are all doing well. They are all gainning weight have a shinny coat. Last night they were making alot of noise. At times it sounded like they were crying other times just whinning. I got up several times to be sure they were ok and she was not laying on them. I was wondering how can I tell if they are getting enough milk. They do nurse alot. What other reasons might they be crying? It is not continuous nor is it a real desparte cry. |
Their little bellies should have a round full look. Also, are you keeping them warm? Do you have a heating pad set up or is your room really warm. I hardly ever use a heating pad but do have individual room thermostats and keep my babies room at about 75 for about three or four weeks. |
They do have a really round little tummy! They actually look like a little pot bellied pig. I think they are warm enough. They vent is closed to that room and they are warm to the touch. I will put a thermometer in ther to be sure. Thanks |
Dee probably hit your problem on the nailhead. When mine started crying, I plugged in the heating pad and they instantly settled down. I had to use the pad more with the last litter as we lost mom. If it is plenty warm, make sure it is not too warm. I had to make sure to turn off the heating pad in the day, especially when the sun was coming in the window. Also watch and make sure mom is licking plenty to make them go pee and poop. Crying can signal hungry, cold, hot, or uncomfortable. Apple bellies will let you know they are getting full, checking the temp should take care of that need, and watching mom to ensure they are getting relieved should take care of uncomfortably full colons and bladders. Congrats on your litter! Looking forward to pictures! |
My puppies that were born on the 24th of August still have spells where they cry. I found that the mamma wasn't pottying them enough. If I got a wet cotton ball and did it, their bladders were full. This helped my situation. |
