In Labor - Questions Hi, About two hours ago (11 central) a girl I have who is due on the 15th had a bubble showing. She was licking at it and it either went back in or popped, I think popped because her hair is wet. That bubble was darker colored. Then just a little while ago another bubble that was kind of a pinkish clear color showed and I think it popped too. Is this two puppies trying to come out at the same time? She's not had any hard contractions, just digging. She's laying around resting now. I can't get ahold of the vet that is close to me, going to try again at 1 in case they are out to lunch. The next vet is an hour away so I just wanted to see if anyone was on here and knew if this is an emergency or not. Thanks! |
Just wanted to update and say the vet said it wasn't anything to worry about as long as she doesn't seem to be in distress. She's digging again now so cross your fingers for a healthy whelp! |
I am sending you good wishes for a safe whelp. |
Good luck to you and your girl.................prayers coming for a safe & succesful whelp. Do you know how many are expected? |
I have had that happen before where two water bubbles would appear before the first puppy was born. Sometimes it can indicate a problem if two pups are trying to come out at the same time. Just watch her closely. Best wishes for a safe whelping. |
Safe whelp!! Looking for an update......:D |
Still nothing she digs for a few seconds and then lays down and rests for 20 minutes or so. Then she gets up and pees and starts over. I don't see any bulge where a puppy is presenting in the birth canal and she isn't having hard contractions. |

She's about 6 or 6.5 pounds before being pregnant bred to a five pound male. She's got a stocky body type. This isn't her first litter but it's her first litter with me. |

I would say that if she's not in distress not to worry yet. My vet recommended that we not actually watch because they can shut down and stop having contractions. He's big on not watching them. |
She's in her whelping box in an xpen next to the computer and I'm trying not to check her too much. My vet said just leave her alone unless she seems to be in distress and keep everything quiet or she could stop labor. If nothing by four the vet said to call back and we could go from there to see if she needs to come in. |
My dog Diva had a litter on August 15. (her 2nd) She deliver 2 puppies on her own and then went 3 hours with nothing. After the 3rd hour a bubble appeared and she began to strain occasionally with contractions. After 45 minutes of that with no puppy in site, we headed to the vets office. Her 3rd puppy was a large breech female that was essentially stuck. She was given a c-section and 2 healthy girls were delivered. I would just watch very closely to make sure that she is not straining with contractions. I followed my gut instinct with Diva and was thankful, because it saved her and those 2 puppies. |
my last litter I kept feeling the buldge off to the side away from her vulva. it never did right itself but that girl had to have a section for other issues. Prayers for a safe whelp!!!!! |
She's actually having contractions now I'll update when we have a puppy. |
