I did not know that they were non-profit? They seem to be after the almighty dollar in any new way they never would have years back (registering mixed breeds) in some cases etc. They are the best Registry out there but we must demand better. Like Nancy said, we have to work to have state laws past that will better protect our pets and then we can demand they close alot of these mills down. |

I agree. I don't think they can be credited in stopping them. However, I do know that when AKC was here, they dna'd my puppies and parents. I don't believe that any other registry does that. Or if they even do inspections. For record keeping, I see an awful lot of people suspended for inadequate records. I've never heard of them coming back and helping you fix the problem. |

(For the record, yes, there are some other registries that do that as well...just not in the same capacity as AKC does. AKC by a long shot, sets the bar there.) |
AKC Complaint Specialist When I started the process with a breeder I am having problems with, I ask an AKC complaint specialist about her being suspended for not being able to identify her dogs and her paperwork and they absolutely told me they will make up to 3 trips to help them solve the problem before they will suspend them. In some cases I would agree to ONE visit from them but in others, if they don't know their dogs they need to be suspended. |
That's good to know that other registries do inspections. And no, I don't think AKC should get credit for taking down puppy mills unless they were the ones that reported it to the authorities. And wow... if AKC makes 3 trips to someones home to give them the chance to get their paperwork right I'm astonished at how many people are on the AKC suspension list for that. The paperwork is the easiest part! |

They have always been not for profit... Since the day I came to YT I have always stated we have to change the laws..and I have posted about AKC and their greed. I do not think it is acceptible to say "well they are trying" as they are helping to kill millions of dogs. Please spend some time on their website reading all of their board meetings...look at their comments about volumn breeders and Hunte Corporation entertaining them to register their puppies. Hunte Corporation is the largest provider of dogs to pet shops. I was shocked as I so wanted to believe AKC was protecting the purebred dog but they were protecting their pockets. I grew up with AKC dogs but all of us have learned that it boils down to the breeder...period! |
