Dew Claws :animal36 Well, I did it. I was able to remove the dew claws on Sammie's babies today. I was so nervous, as it was my first time to doing it. The little girl bled a little more than the boys, but with the clositol it stopped right away. They are growing so fast. The boy is now weighing in at 12.1oz and 10.1oz. Of course, the little girl is smaller than the little boy. |

I just hope that they don't grow back. I did my best at it though. My son held the puppies while I did it. He said, thank goodness there are only 2. He said that he won't help me when it's time to do the tail on the Yorkies. These little (I should say big) guys are Shih-tzu's. Thank goodness we didn't have to do the tails. I was shaking afterwards. Everyone seems really content now. They are feeding and sleeping. |
If you dug down deep enough they should not grow back. The tails are actually easier than the dewclaws but they do cry more when the tail docked. |
Do you use the clamp and twist method for the tails? That looks a lot easier. |
I just cut them off with sharp scissors. I have never seen the clamp and twist method done but to me it sounds more painful. |
Ben's Dew Claws have started to grow back a little bit. Does that mean that they weren't done property. What are the negatives of having the dew claw grow back and can anything be done about it now? He is over a year old now. |
