CKC and AKC and more questions So i am new to the registering thing. ANd i have tons of questions that none of the websites answer. So father is AKC and mother is CKC, what are the babies? Or if the reg was swithced? how does a person get a double registered dog? Also what is the mother was CKC or AKC and father wasnt reg. could the puppies still be reg.? Any help would be great.. |

As far as CKC Is that the Continental Kennel Club. I don't think they have much of a criteria for registering. |

So if i have an AKC Yorkie and AKC Chihuahua and they have pups they can be registered AKC ? or it is a breed thing and can only be reg if they are the same breed? |

From my understanding AKC is to register the pure breed pups of the same breed as mom and dad. I think that I read something about AKC reg mixed dogs but I dont think it was to show them. Are you looking for a yorkie mix puppy? |
Your puppy can only be reg CKC. If you are wanting to enter in AKC competitions like agility ect you can have the pup registered AKC but not for breeding. |

So, any pups born to an AKC and an CKC parents would have to be registered with CKC. To duel register the AKC dog. You will need to send in a copy of the registrations papers to CKC. ( this don't mean you give up the other registation on the dog) An AKC dog is always an AKC dog. IMO..If one parent is registered and the other is not, then the pups should be sold without papers. Funny question. No, you can not register them with AKC, they are not the same breed. The pups are now just a mixed breed. I agree with Mardelin - why are you wanting to try and register pups that are mixed? |

The CKC will pretty much register any dog, and duel registration means nothing good. AKC has been tougher on breeders because many states are passing stricter legislation, and AKC can enforce state legislation requirements. When these breeders are suspended from the AKC, they turn to the alternative registries, which have no real requirements, and because most people are unaware of the differences, they think the word "registered" means something of value. Also, many people have bought AKC dogs with no breeding rights, but go ahead and breed them anyway, and they are not eligible for the AKC, so a breeder will list him with one of the other registries, and often call it duel registration, but his or her pups are not allowed on the AKC list because they had no breeding rights. I believe a breeder who has done this is unethical, and would not wish to support someone like this. Also, the alternative registries have no restriction on breeding, so every dog sold through them comes with breeding rights, and as you are probably aware, not every dog should be bred, this is very bad for the breed. |

What are breeding rights? I understand that if i buy a pet i have the choice of getting papers or not but what are breeding rights. |

Here's a link that explains the differences between registries. http://moosewood.tripod.com/registries.html, also remember that are 2 CKC's one is legitmate, and one is not. The one in this country is not. |
You are in Appleton! I use to live there from the time I was 14-15. Most of it all winter - too much snow for me! My mom still lives there and my gandparents use to when they were alive. We lived near an old school that had a cool slide and huge swings and there was another school just down the block. So you want to breed because... why???? Now, if you think you are getting into this to make money, think again. Infact they busted a puppymill in south GA yesterday and was on the news stating that the reason so many are being busted now is that they have way too many dogs (85), because of the recession they are Not selling many purebreds now. They cannot sell their pups. Times are tough and people are not buying as much as before. I am glad the mill was busted but feel so sorry for the dogs. So do not think you can make any money on raising puppies. You have testing, shots, vet checks, up keep, and a lot of stuff to buy, etc...not to mention if your girl needs a c-section. C-sections are a lot. Do you have money to waste and do not care to loose it? This is not a good investment!! It is very expensive. So unless you are wealthy and have the extra money to waste, I would not recommend it. Also yorkies just do not have pups on their own. There are cords to tie, bags to open, fluid to get out, etc... Are you sure you are up to this?? I had to reach up inside one of my girls when delivering and turn to pup, since the arms were caught up inside. It is a lot of intense work and things you need to know to help your girl whelp a litter. This is one reason too I do not breed often, it is scary and I love my girls deeply. I worry so much for them. If you intend to buy, I would only buy AKC registered - JMO. That is all I have and will only have. And it should never cost more to buy a pup with an open registrations. I would never buy from someone that did this. You have to wait and see if the pup is to standard and that takes awhile to find out - they need to be adults. You need to learn about the standard and know how to judge a dog to see how close it comes to the standard. Once it grows up it might not be good enough to breed. So there is a lot to learn first. |
Not, a litter of mixed puppies would not be able to be "registered" with any KC. Being "registered" means that the dog is a purebred, recognized breed. Mixed dogs are not recognized breeds. You could go to one of various registries and get a certificate that basically states the dog is the offspring of two registered, purebred dogs, but the dogs themselves would still be mixes, not recognized, registerable breeds. (I hope for goodness sake that the question is theoretical in any event.) |

There are different "registries" AKC being the oldest and more reputable here in America. The idea of MIXING breeds is totally opposite to what registries stand for. Any decent registry will NOT register mixed breeds for pedigree purposes. You can however register ANY mixed breed with AKC to participate in different games and competitions. But it is a different deal, you DO NOT need to have pedigrees or parents that are registered at all, it will also keep NO parentage or lineage record on a mixed, and you can only register your mix after it has been FIXED. They do that because they support RESPONSIBLE pet ownership and sponsor spay/neuter. I hope you are not planing to breed a litter of yorkies X Chih's. The advice you got from the other posts is true. expenses and all... XOXO |

They do that because they support RESPONSIBLE pet ownership and sponsor spay/neuter. You are not registering your Mixed Breed with AKC but, are given a number to allow you to participate in Companion Events with other mixed breeds. A show onto itself and not part of Pure Breed Events. |
