Puppy food for a gal prego I have heard to give puppy food to a a female dog who is prego around the end of pregnacy and during the time she is taking care of her pups, sorry I had brain freeze and cant remember for what. but anyhow I normally gave my pregnate dam purina puppy. I have recently changed my yorkies diet to diamond I have heard that it is one of the best that is comparable to royal I have a bag of royal puppy and would like to know if it would be a good idea to mix it with the diamond food for my Avery who is 6 weeks along. Or would it be better to get the diamond puppy food. What does everyone else use during pregnacy? Thanks |
Me personally I won't feed my dams puppy food. I feed them Wellness. The canned food is 95% meat and I add egg yolks, green beans, carrots, some cottage cheese and some dry kibble and just a teaspoon of goatsmilk. I think if you have a good quality dog food you don't really need to give her puppyfood. that's just my opinion. |
All my breeding dogs, male and female, stay on Puppy Food all the time. that is how the old time breeders used to do it and it works for me and my vet approves wholeheartadly. I just have to watch the Protein content. I also add a couple of meals per day during the last two weeks of pregnancy of wet puppy food. |
I give mine puppy food the last two weeks. I also give them 1/2 boiled egg and a tablespoon of cottage cheese twice a day from two weeks before due date until I start to supplement the puppies with baby rice cereal and goats milk. at 4 weeks. They all do well, no eclampsia and it helps to keep their weight up when they are nursing that hungry brood. I find that my new mothers do not eat much so it makes me feel better cause they always eat the eggs and cottage cheese. |

If you're feeding a high quality food it is unnecessary to change to puppy food. Cottage Cheese, eggs are great for preggie moms |
