help finding a welping box I need to know what can I use for a welping box.I have used in the past a large airline kennel and just used the bottom half.It needs to be large or ex large.Any suggestions?I can not find any big crates locally:) |
My husband built mine very cheap. You can also buy them on ebay. What about a big rubbermaid container? |
My Husband did mine as well... it is very efiecient and cheap !!! |
~I also use the large rubbermaid containers. Can get them at Walmart. Or if you don't want to use that, you can use a large cardboard box, and maybe cut the sides down a little. __________________ |
Yeppers, DH built mine as well.. he even put linoleum tiles on the bottom for quick cleaning. |
Good ideas! I just have an x-large black crate, used for huge dogs like mastiffs and whatnot. Maybe I should try the rubbermaid idea so I don't have to keep Roxie locked inside a crate. Plus it would keep out the drafts better than a crate. |

1 Attachment(s) I aslo use a large Rubbermaid container. I made a door in it and keep the top on the container so the female and pups have there privacy. I use a bed sheet to cove the container in and out and add a towel in the bottom of the box. I put the heating pad under the box and a thermometer in the box . It is very easy to clean, and you can using to store your whelping stuff between litters. Here is how it look. |
I also just bought a huge 35 gallon Rubbermaid tub. I cut a hole in the side for Momma to get in and out. I also bought pipe insulation (at Lowe's) and lined the hole with it so Momma wouldn't scrape herself getting in and out. |
I like to do crafts so I have made my own out of fabric and quilting padding. I made it so the door can be set at different heights with velcro so mama can get out easily, the sides are sturdy, and at one end there is a place to put a heating pad underneath. Its completely machine washable. Of course I will be adding a blanket or a few towels while she is whelping to help keep everything clean. It seems the cheapest way to go is to buy a tote from walmart and cut a hole in it though. |
This sounds awesome, can you post a pic?? I also love to sew and do crafts. Quote:

I sure can let me go pull it out really quick. |
My vet suggested a baby pool. I bought mine from Petsmart. It is a little smaller than the normal baby pools as it is for dogs. -Hate to use that word!:pI just lined it with a blanket and Maggie can get in and out as she pleases. |
I use a new deep litter box. It's the perfect size. |
Mine was built using the RUBBER MAID large or extra large container, Hubby cut a window to one of the sides, i can put the lid for extra draft protection ... first few days we just use the container as the box, then i put one of those play yards around to contain the puppies and keep them safer as they start to walk. It fits right in the corner in my kitchen, he also 'drill" a hole on the back so i can pass the heating pad cord through it. He did a very neat job ! |
