Heard Of This Breeder Anyone?
 
Our daughter is trying to find a good breeder to get a Yorkie or Morkie from when the time comes, has anyone heard of this breeder?

USDA breeders
 
I didn't find them on the USDA list of breeders. Other members alerted me to this list. Apparently, large kennels are required to obtain a certificate from the USDA. (Maybe some other members could provide more info on the significance of this list.)

I also did not find them on the MN Secretary of State's website as having filed an assumed name or documents to organize a corporation or other business entity.

Wow! Lots of info on this Kennel......definitely a bit fishy....don't want to label them a puppy mill, they be giving excellent care to their dogs. But the complaint alone would cause me to shy away.

She also heard of a place called Waggin Tails but I haven't had a chance to look anything up on that place yet. She has decided against the North Country Kennel due to the info you all have provided. Thanks!

USDA licensing
 
This is a link to the federal regulations that require the licensing that leads to a breeder being on the "list." Based on the exceptions, the list includes breeders who sell 25 or more dogs a year and have 4 or more breeding females.

In 2005, Waggin' Tails Kennel was incorporated in the State of Minnesota (File No. 1453265-2). The registered agent is Gary McDuffee, and the registered address is 1805 Riverview Dr, Little Falls, MN 56345.

In 2008,the Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed a conditional use permit granted by Morrison County for Gary McDuffee to have a kennel with up to 500 (that's right, five hundred) adult dogs (4 months or older). This is the citation to the case: In re McDuffee, 2008 WL 2492323 (Minn. Ct. App. 2008). One of the issues was the failure to address the size of the cages.

When I googled the Kennel name along with the address, it pops up as a Boarding, training, etc. Nothing on puppies.

I checked the above website, is this Gary person associated with Waggin Tails.

Sorry I had to leave yesterday, I just read the posts on Waggin Tails. Geez what a nightmare this all is! I am so glad there are ways to find this out before buying however. Thanks for all your help!!! I was doing the math on the first place and even that made a liar out of them. Here's what my friend and I came up with. They state that they do not allow people in their facility because of illness. My question would be how can, as they stated, have 7 employees during the week caring for hundreds of dogs and puppies. If all 7 worked every day that would be 43 dogs/puppies each had to take care of (assuming they have 300). Weekends and holidays they have 3 working = 100 dogs/puppies. How could they possibly be socializing, loving, holding each one. Not possible. I do know you should always meet the mom and dad to the puppy. You should also be allowed to see the living conditions the parents live in. Of course, they stated they won't allow that due to you bringing in illness. Easily solved - they should have hand sanitizers available, paper booties, and just not let people touch any of the animals.

Great math.....here's another thing to consider; those that are breeding designer dogs on purpose are only doing so for $$$$$. Especially if they are doing it in mass volume.

The one thing that I may disagree with you on is always meeting the mom and dad. Two scenarios. One the breeder has used a stud from another breeder; so you can see the mom, but not the sire. Or, the puppy you are interested in is a result of such a breeding and is a puppy back in exchange for the stud service, you will be able to view the stud but not the dam.

Not always, however, I do provide a multi-generational pedigree and pics of parents in the pups baby book.

I know there are puppymills out there, but it's still so shocking and sickening to read that a person has THAT many dogs!!!!! :thumbdown :( I just cannot imagine this.....the sadness that these poor babies go through each and everyday....just awful!!!!! We have 4 Yorkies (one of which we have bred) and we are currently raising her 6 and a half week old puppy. I know how much time and effort goes into just this one baby....there is no way that this many breeding dogs and their precious babies are getting the love and care that they deserve. :(

I hope your daughter and her husband find the right breeder...thank goodness you found out about those breeders.

That is why you look for reputable breeders.....and I'm glad you're doing your investigation. But, think of this, if you a mixed breed is purchased, there is less chance of papers.

I would never expect papers unless the dog was presented to me as a purebred. I didn't know a mix breed could have papers. We love our Yorkie she has no papers as she was a rescue. The kids have seen how she was when we got her and how long it is taking to rehab her so they want a pup that hopefully will not have a bad past to recover from and be healthy. We hope to find a local breeder so we can see where it is coming from and the check the pup before buying. That is proving to be a challange in itself.
