Pups (play) fighting I know it's part of the normal socialization process in puppies to play fight, growl, yelp, etc. But, is it normal for them to really violent and loud? They sound like a smaller version of big dogs fighting. Sometimes one will even scream, which I know is good to teach the bully to stop what she's doing (it's usually she in this case), but I worry that they might be getting too violent. Since Mom doesn't interact with them, she's not there to set them straight. When our Rotty had puppies years ago, she was always chastising them and was very 'strict.' LOL They are now very well-mannered dogs. But our little ones don't have that situation, so we intervene when they get carried away, but I would love to get some of our thoughts on this. Thanks! |
They may appear to be very aggressive but it's all normal. I wouldn't interfere unless one is actually being hurt. In all my years of breeding I never had pups hurt each other although it sounded like they were killing each other sometimes |
Our little girl growls visciously at her brothers. (sounds so cute cause she is soooo little as the second smallest puppy in the litter) She is the one antagonizing the boys....it concernes me too sometimes! |

So, it sounds like we're handling it well. We just let them go at it, unless it looks/sounds too serious/dangerous. Thanks! ;) |
I wonder if it is our little girls r=trying to show dominance? We have even seen Lily "hump" one of the stuffed animals. I thought she was trying to poop at first but then when I went up to her she was going at it full blown! Bella Mia tries to hump our bigger dog Yogi's leg and the cats all the time before she got pregnant. It drives me crazy I really wish she would be a little more ladylike  |

The other day they were playing tug-of-war with a sock, and she had a tiny, part of the end. He had a huge chunk in his mouth, and we were all cheering him on, as we saw that he might finally win a match. About a minute later, he let go and walk away. I think I hear him say, "I'm a lover, not a fighter!" Don't you just wish you knew what they were thinking? |
