First Heat-11 months
 
Hi, my puppy finally went into her first heat today, yay! She is about two days away from being eleven months. I am not saying i am going to breed her, she is too young. But possibly in the future if she gets big enough and is healthy and all that jazz, i may. When would she mate during her heat cycle and i forgot; how long do the heat cycles last? Again, I am not breeding her during this cycle. Thank you! ugh once i get started writing i cant stop lol.

You're excited, nervous and all. It's ok.

Here you go.

One week (7 days) coming in swealing and pink
One week in (7 days) - showing color
One week coming out (7 days) breeding time and usually bred on the 10th & 12 th day from the onset of showing color.

showing color swelling pink- huh? well, the day before yesterday and yesterday her vulva was swollen and today she started to bleed.

The first week the vulva starts to get pink and swell, preparing for breeding. You may have noticed the swelling day before yesterday, but she started about 5 days before that. Total of 7 days before showing color.

Showing color is a breeders term for bleeding.

If she started to bleed today. On the 10th day from today is when she'll be ready for her first breeding.....Keeping in mind that conception is dependent on when she ovulates.

The whole cycle is 21 days.

Thanks a bunch, I have a long time to learn more about breeding and its so hard to wait. i could barely wait for her first heat and i still have to wait what seems like a million years to actually breed her:(

Yes, there is alot to learn before you attempt to breed. Hey! You're in McKenny, Texas. You might consider contacting the Bluebonnet Yorkshire Terrier Club of Greater Fort Worth & Dallas. Lots of experienced breeders there. My mentor is the President of the Club. Go to YTCA.org, then the Regional Clubs, you can get contact info there.

Don't get all that excited, breeding is not all it's cracked up to be. There is someone on the breeding page right now, whelping a litter.
