Moonlight Kennels in Sparta MO... Has anyone had any experience or know anything about this breeder? They breed Yorkies and Schnauzers in Sparta MO (near Springfield, MO). I'm looking for a reputable breeder in MO and any suggestions would be much appreciated...thanks! |
No I have not heard of that breeder. There is a Moonlight Yorkshire Terrier breeder that is a member of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and very well thought of but she started out in Michigan and is now in London, Ky. I'm sure someone else will be able to help you. Good Luck. |

Judging from the website....I'd contact them. Yorkshire Terrier & Miniature Schnauzer Puppies - Yorkie Puppies |
Two different Moonlight Kennels. |
That link is not for Connie Conn's website. mardelin is right. In fact I think there are about three or so with the same name but the one you want is Connie Conn in London, if you can afford her and IF you can get her to sell you a dog. http://www.moonlightyorkies.com/page1.htm Here is her website |

Re: Moonlight Kennels I bought a male and female from her. My little babies are both beautiful and healthy. Their son was born last July (his picture is my avatar). My experience with Wanda was very good. Hope this helps you.:) |
I thought the following was interesting posted on her site. I would be interested in what other showbreeders think about this. I can't say that I have seen other AKC breeders doing this. +++++ The majority of our Yorkshire Terrier puppies and all Mini Schnauzer puppies are bred by Wanda. Wanda Smith has over 25 years of experience in dog husbandry and has been breeding AKC registered Yorkie and Schnauzer puppies since 1981. Wanda is not able to keep up with the demand for Yorkies and Schnauzers by herself and does occasionally list puppies from other breeders. What does this mean for you? Many other sites list other breeder's puppies and try to disguise the fact that they know almost nothing about the dogs being listed on their sites. In many cases the person listing the puppy has never even seen it. At Moonlight Kennels, NO YORKIE OR SCHNAUZER PUPPY WILL BE LISTED THAT HAS NOT BEEN PERSONALLY EXAMINED AND PRONOUNCED SATISFACTORY BY WANDA. That means that even if you choose a Yorkshire Terrier or Miniature Schnauzer puppy that Wanda did not personally breed, you still get the benefit of Wanda's extensive experience. Any dog that is listed at Moonlight Kennels is living at Wanda's home being cared for by Wanda and most importantly is covered by Wanda's personal guarantee. |
i know this is a WAAAAY OLD post and i havent been on YT for a long while. i have very limited access to a computer, i think last time i posted was JUST after i had confirmed pheobes pregnancy ( which went amazingly perfect and she had two beautiful healthy pups. I kept them in the family- my mother has the lil girl and my aunt has the lil boy and they are both doing wonderful*** just a side note on that!! haha.)Pheobe is from moonlight kennels in sparta. I also agree, Wanda was very insightful and matched me up with a perfect pup. I absolutely LOVE pheobe. She did arrive with a mild case of kennel cough, which was diagnosed by a vet. but i honestly had my doubts and it MAY have been something else from the delivery to me, because it cleared up very quickly and neither of my other two dogs contracted it. I found this thread when i Googled moonlight kennels, out of curiousity and wanting to look at the website and admire the puppy pictures( hehehe). well, i guess that is it. I just wanted to "bump" this in favor of Wanda and moonlight kennels. I really wish i had more frequent access to a computer. I would love to be more involved with the discussions on this forum. |

Since you are bumping to recommend Wanda I will respond with my experience. I also understand this is an old thread, but apparently Moonlight Kennels may still be in business. I bought my Nicco from Wanda in 2007 when he was 12 weeks old. I was impressed with her website and the fact that she was a BBB member and thought she could be trusted. I chose my puppy from photos and several phone calls with Wanda. I asked all the right questions, or so I thought. She was honest in stating that the puppies DO NOT live in her home, but are kennel raised. In my excitement, I ignored this red flag. He has an amazing lineage and I WANTED him, though his parents ARE NOT show dogs, ie champions. Another red flag? She sold him to me on a full registration. I now know that NO REPUTABLE breeder will do this! I asked her several times, including the day before she put him on the plane to us how much he weighed. She was always a bit vague and at the time told me that she had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was closing her kennels because she did not have the energy to breed and raise puppies. I was told he was "about" 2 1/2 pounds at 12 weeks, which was perfect as I was not wanting a "tiny." Well, I took him to the vet 3 days after she told me that and he actually weighed 3lbs 13 oz, which of course made me very unhappy. I called her immediately and she refunded $500 of the $1750 I paid for him. I really didn't think this was fair, but my family had already fallen in love with him and there was NO WAY I was returning him. Nicco currently tips the scales at 10-12 pounds (he is not overweight, according to his vet) and has a very cottony coat that I have to keep short. In just one generation (breeding with her own dogs) this breeder managed to destroy years of good genes - Rothby's, Durrer etc. Her website has been suspended by the host and Wanda is no longer a member of the BBB. She has 2 negative ratings, including one as recently as last year for a VERY sick dog that has a GENETIC disorder! My recommendation? Buyer beware! BTW, that is Nicco in my Avatar. Cute puppy, right?? |
Wrong Moonlight Wrong Kennel to go to... Moonlight Kennels Business Review in Sparta, MO - Southwest Missouri BBB Moonlight Kennels - Sparta, Missouri (MO) | Company Profile <<<$40,000 claimed from a small in home breeder really? Yorkie puppies - MO <<<this site is know for pup mills to sell on & apparently this Moonlight Kennels works with a well know national broker-sickening! Also the advertise "teacups" need I say more? |

from the link " Moonlight Kennels 417 634 4155 sparta, MO Christian MO Moonlight Kennels has Yorkies and Mini Schnauzer puppies for sale. We have information about Teacup Yorkie puppies and Miniature Schnauzers, and … Miniature Schnauzers Teacup Yorkies" It's their ad... |

Again, I've never seen this ad or this website before you posted it. It says she has "information about teacup yorkies and miniature schnauzers." Don't get me wrong, I am not defending her. But her website is shut down and when I bought my puppy from her the "information" she offered explained that there is no such thing as a teacup. So, I think you may be jumping to the wrong conclusion and spreading misinformation. I actually had a transaction with the woman and am explaining what I saw on her website and what she told me. She does not actually advertise teacups FOR SALE on this hotfrog website. She states that she has "Yorkies and Mini Schnauzers for sale." Just saying. |
Oh no I totally get you, and good to know what she says on her own site. I'd hope the advert. was edited incorrectly or it was an error but that's just what it states;I've never dealt with her-I was just reading and posting what her ad states-check the link-if it's incorrect you should let her know about it. I'd think she'd want it fixed, especially if she took the time to inform people on the truth about "teacups etc". I've seen other breeders say some of the 'puppy ad' sites edit their listing and use certain key words to increase search hits etc... Is she on YT? You should get her to join... |
P.s. that one nation pup broker shows moonlight as one of their breeders-? If that's not true she should get that clarified. It's really damaging if she is a responsible breeder to be associated with a nation broker |
My Trouble came from Moonlight Kennels in Feb 08. I remember the info about tea cups on her website. At that point I did not know very much about what was good or bad when it came to buying a yorkie. Wanda was very informative about the puppies and was truthful about Trouble. She required me to allow her to have him neutered before sending him to me. At 12 weeks old her was neutered and put on a plane to Tennessee. After the neuter his ears dropped. She told me over the phone how to tape them back up, but he looked so cute with them down we just left them that way. He has grown into a bigger yorkie. Trouble weighs around 9 lbs and he isn't over weight either. He has a cotton coat that I keep cut short too. He also has very bad allergies that we have to have shots for weekly, but he is a very happy, playful, loving little man who I wouldn't trade for anything. |

Why not just adopt one, if you are not wanting to show. All of my yorkies except the very first one, were adopted!!! I love them all to this day. |
Sorry about Trouble's allergies. Shots weekly Yikes! Scoobers is allergic to corn and thankfully it forced me into super nutritional awareness, I knew about their food but didn't realize how many treats contain corn. Princess is allergic to fleas, which forces me to really stay on top of parasites; one stray flea from a dog we found wondering caused a "hot spot" and emergency trip to the vet. Those allergies are easily remedied and avoidable though, I can't imagine the effort you must exert I'm so sorry. Poor Trouble and weekly shots, while in a medical crisis myself I had to do weekly blood draws-it was miserable for me I empathize. I just LOVE 'teapots', personally I prefer Yorkie's about or around 10 pounds (I know out of the standard) they just seem to really be my preferred imagine of a beautiful Yorkie that is still a 'dog dog' and able to get in and throw some decent weight around with other breeds. Elvis is 9 pounds as well. |
..im at work... SHHHHHH!!!! hehe. wow!! i didnt realize all that about moonlight and wanda, although, i did try to visit the website without any success.. so, that explains it. I also remember the info on her site about "no such thing as teacup". I have not experienced any health complications at all with my pheobe.. now im hoping something doesnt come up in the future...? well, what done is done.. so on and so forth. :P you live, you learn. |
Breathing Problems - Yorkie from Moonlight Kennels I am hoping someone might be able to offer some insight with their knowledge of Yorkies. My sweet Yorkie is 10 years old. I just adore him. We got him from Moonlight Kennels in Missouri in 2002. He has always had issues with an occasional reverse sneeze, but that is it. It seems like for the past couple of years, the attacks of reverse sneeze are becoming more severe. In the last year, he now has the reverse sneeze, but even at rest he sounds like a human with emphysema. His breathing is always labored. I have taken him to two different vets that just suggest prednisone as needed and a couple of meds for a cough. They don't really have a reason for his symptoms. Other than his breathing problems, he still seems very perky and happy. I have to be very careful for him not to see a ball or anything he wants to play with and chase or he really seems to have breathing issues. Have any of you experienced this with your aging Yorkie? Has your vet had different recommendations. I don't know whether to try another vet, or to just accept the fact that it is normal old age. I just hate not to help him if something can improve his symptoms. Thanks in advance for any replies or insight. |
Reverse sneezing happens, and can worsen with age and allergen exposure A grain free diet is reccomended for dogs with this. Did the vet show you how to cup over the nose to stop episodes? Did you try a detox diet as well purification of the air and antiallergen measures in your home yet? |
