I know one show breeder that has saved a lot of sperm from her older champions and she was able to still have litters sired by them using the frozen semen. Does anyone else do that? |

If you think about it, Johnnie Handsome sired over 60 Champions in the US alone.....I don't think he was retired at a young age. I wouldn't start using a Sire at 6. Buy, I wouldn't hesitate using him past 6, as long as his sperm was strong and he was healthy. My concern would be using a girl past 5, too many things can go wrong.....Think about it, if canine years are 7 to every 1 that would make her 35. And if she's whelped previous litters, her reproductive organs aren't as they were when she whelped her first litter. |

Here is an interesting article about freezing sperm. All About Frozen Semen The Canine Semen Bank of Columbus I think if someone had a very outstanding dog then it would be worth considering. |
ceeby is my main stud. he turned four just today. i will probably breed him a few more times when I have something besides his own to breed him to. I also have cash . he is a little larger than Ceeby but not much and he is young. my girls are spayed and retired at five. The oldest girl I have now is two and a half so I am good for awhile. I am keeping two of the girls out of cash's first litter tho at least long enough to see if they will mature tobe of any size. right now it is looking doubtful. I have had inquiries about frozen also but have never even been interested enough to lookinto it. |
