Woohoo! I got a video, but I need to find some way to upload it from my phone and edit it. It's like 5 minutes long and you can only see movements at the very end of it, lol. |
Congratulation everyone! No pups for me this time. I had my other girl xrayed this morning and nothing.. |

I'm so sorry Melissa. I'm with Breny, I hope you get two nice litters next time! |
2 Attachment(s) Here is Roxie's 8 week belly pic, and the other quilt I made for the puppy if it's a boy. (Roxie slept with it last night, hence the wrinkles lol) |
I'm not sure how to attach a video.. but here is the link if you would like to see the puppy wiggling around in her belly. Look all the way on the left of her belly, almost to the hairline! (It is easier felt than seen, ha ha) JayCut – Roxie's pup in belly |

That was too cute. I could see it moving. I was just sitting here petting Sammie and rubbing her belly and I started seeing the puppies move. I don't know how many she has yet, but I could tell that there is at least 2 of them. It's exciting. I wanted to know if all breeders do a x-ray to find out how many to expect or if they just wait and see how many at the time of the whelp. Let me know your thoughts. |
I think a majority of the reputable breeders do, just because they do all of the pre-testing on the dam and sire and I don't see why they wouldn't do the prenatal stuff as well. It's nice to know how many puppies you should expect, just in case not all of them are whelped.. could pose a big problem if one was completely stuck inside! However, I was mentioning Roxie's xray to my brother in law, who breeds stafforshires, and he scoffed at me and acted like I was crazy. He said none of his breeder friends do xrays or anything of the sort. Hah, who's the crazy one? *eyeroll* I just think it's nice to be prepared, lol |
That's what I thought too, but I know someone who breeds Cocker Spaniels and she doesn't do any x-rays. She thinks that I am crazy for setting up Sammie one the week that she is due. |
I have been raising yorkies for over 12 years and I have never x-rayed. X-rays are not always accurate, especially with large litters. Why stress out the female by taking her to the vet and also exposing her to parvo and other things that are at the vets. Some people say that the x-ray will let them know if the pup is too big but most all of them will let the female go into labor and try to whelp naturally anyway. Also the x-ray can be deceptive about the the size of the pup. In my opinion it is a matter of choice and it has nothing to do if you are a reputable breeder or not. You have to look at each female and each pregnancy. If a person is breeding very small yorkies then it might be helpful but since I don't breed tiny females I just don't find it necessary. |

Bjh, I apologize if I offended you, I was not trying to call you a non-reputable breeder. I just thought an x-ray is something commonly done amongst breeders.. (don't shoot! I'm new to this! lol) Certainly with years of breeding under your belt, you know your lines and you know what to expect :) I, myself, feel better knowing if she is indeed pregnant or not, and how many pups she is carrying. The long uncertain wait is enough to drive me crazy! |
I had xrays on 2 girls and neither had any pups. Talk about people thinking I am crazy. Both girls would have been due on the weekend. I wanted to know what I was in for before 1am on a Saturday night. I had a friend that wouldn't do an xray. She had one huge pup and ended up losing them both. So from then on I if they tie ai xray. |
I have decided to do the x-ray. With Sammie having a c-section last time, not only will I have a general idea of how many, but it will also give me a chance to talk to the doctor about her delivery and find out how much he is going to charge me for a c-section if one is needed. Just keep Sammie in your thoughts and prayers. I can definitely tell that she is pregnant with at least 4 from the movements and locations of them. I just pray that this one goes well. If not, like I said earlier, I will have her spayed. |
