AKC Announces New Program for Mixed Breeds Just wondering how everyone feels about this...? American Kennel Club - AKC Announces New Program for Mixed Breeds |
I think it is great news! All breeds are from somewhere & now all can be included & not ostracized for being a mix! |
I think this issue was discussed on another thread. I think its a great idea. All the mixes must be spayed/neutered to participate and will not be allowed in conformation showing. But it will get families involved the the "dog world", so to speak. Who knows, maybe this will turn a childs dream into a reality. Maybe being a handler or trainer. If nothing else, this new program will be educational. |
I have mixed feelings (pardon the pun...lol). I think it is great to recognize the greatness in any dog regardless of pedigree, however, what worries me is the fact that these dogs will receive an AKC #ID which many BYB will probably take advantage. To me it's almost like saying the AKC is now on the same level as CKC or any other pet registry. In all honesty I think it is probably a ploy by some AKC big wig to rake in more money. |
I think it's fine. They will hold their events seperate from the purebred. Should this be on the General Discussion List? |

good I like the idea. |
I didnt see anything wrong with it untill I saw a mixed breed byb on here saying mixed breed pups could now be a akc registered. I think it could end up being a selling point for them |

Mixes can now be AKC registered!!!! (then in very teeny tiny non-existent print "only if spade & neutered"). "Oooopps, did I forget to tell u that?" After they (bad breeders) get even more money for their mixed designer breeds . :( |

It isn't a registration nor do you receive a pedigree or any paperwork which declares your mix a particular breed...the dogs are simply assigned a number so they may compete in agility and obedience events |
Not sure how I feel about this. But, doesn't it kinda give AKC a black eye ?? I Mean they promote the breeding of pure. But, I quess AKC seen all the other registries making money on mixes. And they want a peice of it too. And, someone else had it right by saying it will be a selling point for those breeding mixes. Does anyone see any safe gaurds against someone selling a pure dog on limited registration ? From what I read, someone could take any dog with an AKC reg # number and breed to different breed with an AKC reg #. How many Nice Kennel Names and CH Lines are going to wind up in all these little mixes running around ?? And if they don't keep records, how are you going to know ?? |
