mating with boyfriend and son
 

my girl yorkie is in heat, have a male yorkie who is her partner. her son, who im dogsitting is 1yr and 1/2 . he just got caught stuck w/mom in mating position, it this very bad?

that is bad, but not the end of the world. Show breeders do it all the time, they call it line breeding. If done right way, it can bring out the best in a line, but it can also bring out the bad. But it happens. But you never know what will come out of it. Long story short, when I 1st started breeding Maltese & Yorkies I started with 1 female of each and was useing others studs. After about 2 years I had become very good friends with the Yorkie studs owner. She had kept to many of her yorkie babies and her husband told her she had to down size, she called and wanted me to take one that loves kids and she did not have kids. She knew holly would love it here with my kids and she was right. She told me that she was breed and we would slit the litter. About 2 weeks later she come in heat, she had gotten missed up some how. I called her to see and she said she thought she had mated her to the stud I had been useing for my yorkie but had not, then she ask if I would her to bring the stud over. I told her I would meet her to pick him up. At this time I had Holly's AKC papers but had never look at them. I know not a good thing, after I breed her I went looking at the papers to find the stud I used was her daddy. I could not belive it. I could not belive she had forgot who her dad was. I call her and she said she thought the other male was her daddy. I told her that is not what is on the paper work. She get back looking at her paper work when the mom was breed and sure enough it was the same stud. She had 3 puppies 2 girls and 1 male. We lost the male the 2nd day he was the smallest I had ever seen. One puppy ended up being 6.5lbs and then there is Keylee, I kept her because she was growing to slow. She is a year old under a pound, and only 5" tall. So take is what can happen. I can never leave keylee over so many hours or her sugar can go low if she does not eat good. So good luck, maybe everything will work out. I am sure it will.

No, this is called inbreeding and no show breeders don't do this all the time. What reputable show breeders do is line breed, not inbreed. You're asking for trouble doing this, it's too close. While it may be a good way to set type in a dog, it is the fastest way to identify faults, as well as health issues. You are doubling up on everything.

If these are AKC registered dogs that bred to the female a DNA will have to be completed do determine who the puppies belong to....as both can father a litter.

Mardelin is correct. Yes!! This can be very bad! This is called inbreeding and you do NOT want to do this (breeding mom to son). You can have some real problems. Show Breeders that I know will never do this!!!!

Yes, both males can father pups and yes, if you register them you will need to do DNA on the fathers and pups to find parentage, since one pup could have one dad and another pup could have the other dad.

It is all inbreeding to me, but I think the part you wrote about the DNA for 2 dads you are talk to the other person, because in my case there was not 2 dads. And I was trying to tell her about what could happen, it is done now, she just needs to make sure that anyone that gets a puppy understands what happened. In my case I sure had looked at the papers once the breeder I got her from mailed them to me, but I was just think in my hand that she knew who the parents was and still not sure how she had them mixed up. I was unset and was even questing if the papers I had went with the dog. So I did have her DNA test and the paper was hers the dad was the dad. It was a very bad over sight, I have learned not to go my what people say to looking into it for myself. But you are right if the dog above has mated with 2 males there does need to be DNA testing. Sorry about the inbreeding/ line breeding I don't like it what ever it is called it is the same to me.

Not sure if you haven't already, but if you take a few classes on dog breeding, that is taught by reproduction vets. They'll teach you how to line breed and the differences between line and inbreeding. Thus establishing, setting, and keeping type in your lines. Breeding yorkshire terriers is not breeding pheno-type to pheno-type as in some breeds. It's not just putting two dogs together, to do it correctly it takes studying and knowing the background, (backwards and forwards) of the two dogs you are planning to breed.

If they are akc you will have to DNA test the puppies to registered them.

I hope you will be honest and tell the truth when selling the puppies.

Breeding mother to son is NOT linebreeding, it's inbreeding...BIG difference, BIG no-no. Some well-seasoned breeders will line breed to bring out certain traits in dogs, but it is certainly not something to attempt if you have minimal knowledge regarding canine genetics. More and more it seems, claiming that a dog is "line bred" seems to be nothing more than a facade used by BYB's in an attempt to justify unethical breeding practices.

I can assure you, contrary to the prior claim made in this thread, reputable breeder, whether they show or not, do not purposely breed mother to son EVER, much less "all the time." I believe that julietimothy has provided a very good example of what can result from inbreeding one dog to it's offspring.
