1st time breeding, 1st litter I'm so proud of my little Lexi. She gave birth Friday June 26th to two healthy pups. The first one took exactly 30 minutes to come out all the way, then she took a 30 minute break, then had the 2nd puppy in 30 minutes- just like the vet said she should. She had trouble opening the sacs so I helped. I wasn't able to suck any fluid out of the first puppy but the second one I did. I'm going to have the vet check them for fluid, just in case. They go in for their tail dockings on Wednesday and everything seems to be going very well. They're actively sleeping and nursing off and one. There's one boy (first born) and one girl. Their names are Russell (Russie) and Blossom. I know they're only 48 hours old but they seem to already be growing. Lexi's just now starting to leave her whelping box for a minute or so at a time but seems anxious to get back to her babies. She's very tentative, any time they whimper she tends to them. Is there anything I should be watching for? good behavior? bad behavior? for mom or pups? Oh, one other question: I saw he eat something bloody right as the last puppy was coming out. Was that the placenta? I'm thinking it was because I didn't see anything come out after that. |
Congrats on your new litter! I would continue to take moms temp, you want to make sure she doesn't get an infection. Anything 103 and higher I'd call my vet. make sure she is eating well. I also add calcium at this point. I would make sure the babies are eating, and warm and that mom is pottying them and that they are gaining weight each day :) Congrats again on your new babies! |
Congrats! I just had to post because I have a cousin named Kelly Morrison.:p |
