My baby will be one in Nov. I am interested in mateing him. I'm located in Maryland. I will not mate him until he turns one. Willow is UKC and weighs 10 pounds. I am not sure where to advertise when the time comes. This will be h my and his first time doing this.

Also,how does the fee work.

At 10 pounds he shouldn't be used as a stud, as he is over the standard by several pounds.

Also, IDK about advertising anywhere else, but do know you can not advertise him for stud here on YT.

I had no intention of advertising him on here. I was asking.

Also,yes he can be studed by the UKC.
It's discouraging to know that people think less because he is over the standard. He has his UKC papers and is considered a pure Yorkie. I have also discussed this with his vet. His vet feels the same way I do. Yorkies come in different sizes.

Nevertheless I love him.:rolleyes:

yes yorkies come in different sizes BUT the standard is the same in AKC and UKC. 7lbs and below. Believe me, I know. I show almost weekly in UKC and have two UKC champions. My show dogs are all dual regitered. First AKC then UKC. if you don't care about breeding to the standard then that's your business BUT don't say he is within UKC standards because he isn't and we ethical breeders try our best to breed within the standard. There are many UKC people on this board and we all know the standard. He is your baby and you love him but he probably should be neutered and just be your baby. Also, this is the rescue and new homes needed forum so your post might get removed or at least moved to the correct forum.

Yes, Yorkies come in different sizes, but those sizes should be under seven pounds according to the breed standard.

Breeding Yorkies who do not meet the breed standard is the reason why so many of today's Yorkies don't look like purebred Yorkies anymore.

The first qualification of responsible breeding is to start with dogs who are very close to the breed standard and have had extensive health testing to make sure they do not pass on any of the genetic conditions inherent in Yorkies.

The typical prospective Yorkie owner is looking for a Yorkie who will be several pounds under the seven pound limit. Larger puppies may be difficult to sell.

Please just get your guy neutered and enjoy him as a pet.

Just because he can be used as a stud physically, doesn't mean that he should be used as a stud. You are correct, Yorkies these days do come in all sizes, unfortunately--a result of breeders producing dogs with no regard to the breed standard.

I'm sorry to say, but I have to agree with what everyone else has stated. Although I'm sure your little guy is a very handsome charming little one, he should not be used as a stud as his weight is way too far over what is called for by the breed standard.

I would suggest that you find a reputable mentor to work with--which you should do anyway if you are trying to become a resonsible breeder. I doubt that you will find any proven Yorkie breeder who would be an advocate of breeding an off-standard dog. Sounds like your vet is either very uneducated on Yorkies, or also lacks a regard for the breed standard....not advice I'd want to follow.

Please consider having your guy neutered and enjoying him as the spoiled prince he deserves to be. There are far too many ill-bred, off standard Yorkies out there as it is. Please do not further contribute to the problem.

Agreed, most vets are not aware of breed standards and the ins and outs of showing and why it is done. Not that I recommend this for everyone, but before breeding one needs to do alot of studying on everything yorkie. I highly recommend even a few breeding seminars.


But, my question is, did that vet convey what tests should be performed on your boy prior to breeding?

That being said, most serious, knowledgable, reputable breeders have their own studs to breed to.
