Sadie's on day 59 & dazed She is resting in her whelping box and will not come out. I am happy to say she ate alittle this afternoon. There is lots of movement in her belly but she is lying very still. Could she be ready at day 59? Isn't this alittle early? Last temp was 99.1 at around 2:00pm. How often should I take her temperature? |
I rely on my girls' behavior to let me know it's time. I usually see them have a glazed look in their eyes along with panting. Also, mine always want to nest just before whelping and the area between their behind and vulva will expand and flatten out. Mine usually have a good appetite until just before whelping. Day 59 is a little early but my Scarlett had a litter in Feb. that was 59 days from the only tie. All the babies were well-formed and healthy. Sounds like you'll be on puppy watch until they come. Best of luck and welcome to YorkieTalk. |

Mine had her babies 12 days ago on day 59. :) I was worried b/c it was the earliest day of the 'normal' range, but I was told it would be fine, and it was. :) Her temp ran around 99 for the 24 hours before labor. She breaks all the rules! LOL There were a few more weird things about her pregnancy and delivery, so it didn't surprise me. ;) |
Thanks for the information. She has that glazed look in her eyes right now. This morning around 3:00am their was blood with kind of green mucus on my bathroom rug. I called the vet, said not to worry. Someone else said I should worry. I am confused. It has not happen again. |

It is from the day she ovulates, not from the day of the tie--which is why the normal range is 59-63. The green mucus usually means within 24 hours. Keep us posted. |
Sorry to disagree. If there is ever any green discharge before a puppy is born it warrants a trip to the vet. If you do have a placenta detaching in there, the puppy will die and if not delivered the mom can become septic and die as well. I would not dream of chancing that. |
I totally agree with fannie. |

You're right about the dangers of a separated placenta. I don't think a mucus plug would be mistaken for a separated placenta in person but could be by a limited general description. The OP did call her vet and, I presume, gave a more detailed description than the one here. It would seem the vet concluded it was the mucus plug. I don't think we have different opinions but more so that we read the description and drew different conclusions based on limited info. I did offer a link that gives a good run-down on what to look for in possible complications since I wasn't really sure based on the OP's post. |
Thanks for the links I read through all and by description it appears a mucus plug. My vet did not offer any details other than it was a sign that she is getting near delivery. ???? Sadie starting digging in several areas during the night. Her bed, her whelping bed, under my bed. I was concerned so I checked on her all night. You guys are offering much more info than my vet. Thanks for this |
I'm on day 62.......waiting on a singleton. Shylohs temp was 100.1 this morning.....soooo we may go till August...LOL |
